Unity completed its acquisition of Weta Digital's tools, pipeline, technology, and engineering talent for US$1.625 billion in cash and stock. WetaFX's visual-effects teams continued as a standalone entity under majority ownership by Sir Peter Jackson.

Unity Software announced the acquisition of the technology division of Weta Digital for $1.625 billion. The 275 engineers employed in the VFX tools and technology will join Unity's Create Solutions division; Weta's remaining teams will continue as a standalone company known as WetaFX.
