    Xuanhua Steel Reported for Polluting Surrounding Villages and Exposed for Failing to Implement Heavy-Pollution Weather Emission Reductions

    In 2016, Laohufen Village in Xuanhua District reported that Xuanhua Steel caused groundwater and dust pollution. An investigation found that Xuanhua Steel had fugitive emissions of smoke and dust and problems in the operation of monitoring facilities, and it was ordered to rectify. In 2019, Xuanhua Steel was publicly exposed by Hebei Province as a typical environmental problem for failing to implement emergency emission reduction measures during heavy-pollution weather; central environmental inspection also pointed out its “using shutdown in place of demolition” and inadequate capacity replacement. The relevant blast furnaces and converters were dismantled in 2022–2023.
