The Austrian State Printing House (OSD) is a company specializing in secure identity management and ID products. It has more than 200 years of experience in manufacturing identity documents and offers ID management solutions and digital government services.

History

The company was founded in 1804 by Emperor Franz I as the 'k. k. Hof- und Staatsdruckerey'. In 1850 it began producing postage stamps. After the collapse of the monarchy in 1918, it became the Österreichische Staatsdruckerei. Between 1938 and 1945, the National Socialists renamed it Staatsdruckerei Wien. In 1997, it was converted into a stock corporation with the aim of privatization, which was implemented in 2000 by the ÖIAG. In 2002, the company moved to a new production site in Vienna 23. In 2006, it introduced the security passport with chip.
