Acaia states that in 2013 it began developing its first product, the Acaia Pearl coffee scale, which was successfully funded on Kickstarter. The company was officially founded in 2014. That same year, it launched the white Pearl production model at the SCAA Expo, where it won the Best New Product Award. The company says its products are infused with experiences in manufacturing laboratory precision balances and designing consumer products, and that upon discovering the specialty coffee industry's need for precise and accurate scales, the founders set out to create one that was both aesthetically pleasing and precisely functional.
