History

According to the company's own account, ADLER Modemärkte looks back on a long history that began in 1948 with the production of dresses and coats in the Saxon Erzgebirge. The company was founded by Wolfgang Adler in Annaberg (Saxony). In 1970 the first Modemarkt opened at the new company headquarters in Haibach (near Aschaffenburg), and in 1971 the first ADLER Modemarkt opened in Haibach, described as the starting signal for continuous expansion. The ADLER customer card was introduced in 1974. Market entries followed in Luxembourg (1981), Austria (1987) and Switzerland (2012). The 100th ADLER Modemarkt opened in 1998, and seven stores in Austria were taken over in 2009. The ADLER online shop started in 2010, and ADLER Modemärkte GmbH went public in 2011. In 2018 the company started its "Strategie 2020" with the goal of making ADLER a digital and real platform for people in their best years. The company was taken over by the Zeitfracht Gruppe in 2021 and by the Röther Unternehmensgruppe in 2024.
