History

AFS Energy is a division of AFS Group, whose history dates back more than 175 years through its predecessors. The origins of AFS Group can be traced to 1851, when three financial entrepreneurs set up Troost, Herckenrath & Ten Kate, a firm that specialised in Dutch guilder loans on the money and capital markets for almost 140 years. In 1990, Troost, Herckenrath & Ten Kate was acquired by Amsterdam Option Traders (AOT), an international trading firm set up in 1980 that went public in 1985. In 1984, Schamhart Independent Floor Broker Services opened to facilitate non-members' entrance to the European Option Exchange (EOE), founded in 1978 in Amsterdam. Schamhart was one of the first brokers active on the floor. In 1994, Schamhart set up a separate entity under the name AFS as an independent interdealer broker in equity and bonds. AFS Group was founded in 2000 through the merger of its predecessors. Today, AFS Group is a European financial service provider and a multi-channel, multi-asset intermediary in wholesale financial markets and renewable energy products. It is headquartered in Amsterdam with an office in New York and over 180 employees.
