Overview

AFS - OTF is the Organised Trading Facility (OTF) operated by AFS Group, a European financial service provider and multi-channel, multi-asset intermediary in wholesale financial markets and renewable energy products. AFS Group is headquartered in Amsterdam, with an additional office in New York, and employs over 180 people. The group describes itself as one of the few management- and employee-owned independent financial intermediaries, serving more than 3,000 active counterparties including asset managers, banks, corporates, family offices, funds, pension funds, insurers, market makers, municipalities, utilities and more than ten ministries of finance. Roughly 70% of its clients are considered end-clients. The AFS - OTF is part of the group's regulatory and market-infrastructure offering, alongside its MTF (Multilateral Trading Facility). These venues complement AFS's execution and custody services, energy platform solutions, commodities business and reporting services. The OTF provides a regulated multilateral trading venue for wholesale market participants, supporting the group's broader intermediary activities across interest rates, equities, bonds, commodities and environmental products. AFS Group was founded in 2000 through the merger of predecessor firms whose collective histories date back more than 175 years. Its Interest Rate department alone traces its origins over 175 years and is described as one of the largest independent Money and Fixed Income brokers in Europe, with more than 45 specialists serving over 2,500 professional and eligible clients globally. The group is fully licensed and regulated by authorities including the AFM and DNB in the Netherlands, BaFin in Germany and FINMA in Switzerland. As a brand, AFS - OTF represents the group's regulated trading-venue capability rather than a consumer product. It is aimed at professional and eligible counterparties in wholesale financial and environmental markets, and it sits within a portfolio that also includes execution and custody, energy platform solutions, commodities, USA operations, and reporting services. The OTF and MTF are presented together in the group's navigation, reflecting their shared role in providing regulated access to markets.

History

AFS Group, the parent of AFS - OTF, was founded in 2000 through the merger of predecessor firms whose collective histories date back more than 175 years. The group's own history page traces its origins to 1851, when three financial entrepreneurs set up Troost, Herckenrath & Ten Kate. That firm specialised for almost 140 years in Dutch guilder loans on the money and capital markets. In 1978 the European Option Exchange (EOE) was founded in Amsterdam as a futures and options exchange, and in 1983 it started a stock market index called the EOE index. In 1984 Schamhart Independent Floor Broker Services opened to facilitate non-members' access to the exchange; Schamhart was one of the first brokers active on the floor. In 1990 Troost, Herckenrath & Ten Kate was acquired by Amsterdam Option Traders (AOT), which had been set up in 1980 and went public in 1985 as an international trading firm. In 1994 Schamhart set up a separate entity under the name AFS as an independent interdealer broker in equities and bonds. AFS Group was formed in 2000 through the merger of these predecessor businesses. Over the following decades it developed into a multi-channel, multi-asset intermediary in wholesale financial markets and renewable energy products, with offices in Amsterdam (headquarters) and New York and over 180 employees. The group describes itself as one of the few management- and employee-owned independent financial intermediaries, serving more than 3,000 active counterparties, about 70% of which are end-clients. Within the group, the AFS - OTF is the Organised Trading Facility, presented alongside the AFS MTF under the group's regulatory and market-infrastructure offering. The OTF and MTF complement AFS's execution and custody services, energy platform solutions, commodities business, USA operations and reporting services. The group is fully licensed and regulated by authorities including the AFM and DNB in the Netherlands, BaFin in Germany and FINMA in Switzerland. Its Interest Rate department, dating back more than 175 years, is described as one of the largest independent Money and Fixed Income brokers in Europe, with over 45 specialists serving over 2,500 professional and eligible clients globally.
