Overview
Agria Park is a shopping and leisure centre in Eger, Hungary, which opened its doors in March 2008 on the site of the former Egri Dohánygyár (Eger Tobacco Factory). The complex was developed by Wallis Ingatlan Zrt. after the tobacco factory ceased operations in 2004, and its foundation stone was laid in February 2007. During construction, parts of the historic factory buildings were restored and integrated into the new centre, including the water tower and the wings facing Törvényház Street and Vörösmarty Street. The centre combines retail, dining, entertainment and office functions. It houses a fitness room, a three-screen cinema, numerous food and beverage units and restaurants, as well as rentable offices in the Vörösmarty Street wing. An approximately 500-space underground garage serves visitors. In 2012 the country's first shopping-mall library opened here. The plaza's park area features a Zsolnay ornamental fountain, a playground and a fountain. Agria Park hosts a regularly updated roster of shops and brands, seasonal campaigns and cultural events. Its official website lists current promotions, store offers and a calendar of exhibitions and family programmes held in the Agria Park Gallery and elsewhere in the centre. The centre has also received a BREEAM In-Use 'Very Good' certification, reflecting its environmental performance. As a regional shopping destination in Eger, it serves the city and its surrounding area with fashion, footwear, eyewear, food and entertainment offerings.
History
The area where Agria Park now stands was previously the city's market square. In 1896 the Egri Dohánygyár (Eger Tobacco Factory) was built on the site, and it operated there until 2004. After the factory closed, the building complex passed to Wallis Ingatlan Zrt., which undertook the development of a shopping centre. The foundation stone of the shopping centre was laid in February 2007. During construction, care was taken to restore and incorporate parts of the former factory building into the shopping centre. The water tower and the buildings facing Törvényház Street and Vörösmarty Street were preserved. An underground garage with approximately 500 spaces was also created. The plaza was designed to include a fitness room, a three-screen cinema, numerous food and beverage units and restaurants, as well as rentable offices in the Vörösmarty Street wing. In 2012 the country's first shopping-mall library opened here. The plaza's park contains a Zsolnay ornamental fountain, a playground and a fountain. The building's opening ceremony took place on 7 March 2008. Since then Agria Park has operated as a shopping and leisure centre in Eger, hosting retail stores, seasonal campaigns and cultural events such as exhibitions in the Agria Park Gallery. The centre has also been recognised with a BREEAM In-Use 'Very Good' rating for its environmental performance.
