Ahern Rentals

Ahern Rentals is an American equipment rental company. According to its official website, it is part of the Ahern Family of Companies, describes itself as the largest independent family-owned equipment rental company in the world, and is headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada. Its history traces to 1953, when founder John P. Ahern and his wife Martha purchased Signal Oil & Gas, a service station in Las Vegas, and began selling gas and renting equipment at the same location. The business later focused on equipment rental, expanded across Southern Nevada and Southern California, and the two companies were combined into one business and became Ahern Rentals in 1997.

Ahern Rentals' company history began in 1953 when company founder John P. Ahern and his wife Martha purchased Signal Oil & Gas, a service station located on the current site of The Strat in Las Vegas, and started by selling gas and renting equipment at the same location. In 1958, they sold the service station so they could focus on rental equipment, and that same year opened Ahern's Trailer and Equipment Rental on Main Street in Las Vegas and expanded the rental inventory. By 1970 they expanded again, opening Ahern Renter's Center in the historic Westside of Las Vegas. In 1978, John and Martha's son Don launched Los Arcos Equipment, his own small rental store, starting with a fleet of scissor lifts. By 1983, due to increased demand, the business was relocated and expanded throughout Southern Nevada and Southern California. In 1990, Don purchased Ahern Renter's Center from his father and integrated his high-reach rental business to expand the rental fleet, continuing to grow Los Arcos Equipment across Nevada, California and beyond. In 1997, the two companies were combined into one business and became Ahern Rentals. In 1999, Don purchased a forklift manufacturer in Oregon called Western Attachment Company.
