Overview
Angle Editorial is an independent Catalan publishing house based in Barcelona, dedicated to books in the Catalan language. It was founded in 1992 in Manresa by Eudald Tomasa and has since built a catalogue spanning essay, narrative, illustrated books, poetry and other genres, as well as Spanish-language versions of some of its titles. The publisher is known for its commitment to Catalan letters and for participating in cooperative structures that support independent publishing in the Catalan-speaking territories. In November 2008, together with Cossetània Edicions and Edicions Bromera, Angle Editorial founded Edi.cat, a network of independent publishers created to jointly promote their bibliographic catalogues and to drive editorial innovation projects, especially digital books in Catalan and e-readers. In 2009, again with Cossetània and other publishers, it helped launch the distributor Xarxa de Llibres. In June 2012, Angle Editorial announced its merger with Cossetània into a new company, 9 Grup Editorial. Today Angle Editorial continues to publish under its own imprint within 9 Grup Editorial. Its output includes fiction and non-fiction by Catalan and international authors, illustrated books for younger readers, and poetry. The house maintains a visible presence through bookshops and online retail, and its titles appear in curated selections such as La Finestra Lectora, an online bookstore that features Angle Editorial releases alongside other Catalan publishers.
History
Angle Editorial was founded in 1992 in Manresa, Catalonia, by Eudald Tomasa. From its beginnings it positioned itself as an independent publisher devoted to books in Catalan, covering essay, narrative, illustrated books, poetry and other genres, and also issuing Spanish-language versions of selected titles. Over the years it established a catalogue that reflects a commitment to Catalan-language culture and to a diverse range of literary and non-fiction voices. In November 2008, Angle Editorial joined with Cossetània Edicions and Edicions Bromera to create Edi.cat, a network of independent publishers. The initiative was designed to jointly promote the three houses' bibliographic catalogues and to foster editorial innovation projects, particularly digital books in Catalan and e-readers. The following year, in 2009, Angle Editorial again partnered with Cossetània and other publishers to launch the distributor Xarxa de Llibres, strengthening the distribution infrastructure for independent Catalan publishing. A major turning point came in June 2012, when Angle Editorial announced its merger with Cossetània into a new company named 9 Grup Editorial. This consolidation brought the two imprints under a single corporate structure while allowing Angle Editorial to continue publishing under its own brand. The group structure has since provided a base for the publisher's ongoing catalogue of Catalan-language essay, narrative, illustrated and poetry titles. Angle Editorial's books are distributed through bookshops and online retailers. Its titles appear in curated selections such as La Finestra Lectora, an online bookstore that highlights Catalan-language publishing, where works from Angle Editorial are listed alongside those of other independent houses. The publisher remains active in the Catalan book market, maintaining its identity as an independent editorial voice within 9 Grup Editorial.
