Overview
Arthrosurface offers minimally invasive joint replacement solutions for the shoulder, wrist, knee, foot, and ankle. Their products are clinically proven to help patients live a healthy lifestyle and return to work by increasing range of motion and reducing pain and recovery time.
History
Arthrosurface's story began in 2001 when Steve Ek, while walking through the machine shop of his former employer, Primo Medical Group, noticed metal eye-shields used in laser eye surgery. This prompted discussions with Steve Tallarida, President of Primo Medical Group, about applying the concept of custom-fit eye-shields to treating defects on the surface of the knee. Steve Ek and engineers at Primo Medical Group took measurements of the molded eye pieces and discovered they could map the surface curvature of the knee joint using a 3-D mapping tool. They created a digital caliper, mapped coordinates on a cadaver knee, and cut a circular piece of metal to reproduce the exact curves of the knee joint, leading to the development of the CAP (Contoured Articular Prosthesis).
