Overview

Atlantide Editore is an Italian independent publishing house based in Latina, a city in the Lazio region south of Rome. It was founded on 7 September 2015 by Dario Petti, a journalist, essayist and sociology graduate, with the stated aim of narrating the submerged stories of local communities through essays and narrative. The publisher's name and mission evoke a journey of discovery into the deep, often overlooked lived experience of communities, men and women, their stories and roots, and the link between past, present and future. From its initial focus on local community histories, Atlantide Editore soon broadened its catalogue to include publications of a more general nature. Today it describes itself as a publishing reality dedicated to essays, narrative and poetry. Its output includes works on history, politics, European integration and social themes, alongside literary fiction and poetry. A notable example is a volume collecting the proceedings of a study conference on the political and moral legacy of Altiero Spinelli, held on the fortieth anniversary of his death, produced in collaboration with the Istituto di Studi Federalisti "Altiero Spinelli", the Spinelli Library of the Lazio Region and the European Documentation Centre of Roma Tre University. Beyond publishing, Atlantide Editore is active in cultural promotion. It has regularly organized public presentations, literary festivals, history workshops and writing projects, contributing to the cultural life of Latina and its surrounding area. The house is led by Dario Petti as Editorial Director, supported by editorial curators Sara Rossi and Claudia Montecalvo. As a small independent publisher, it operates primarily in the Italian market and maintains a direct relationship with its readership through its website and public events.

History

Atlantide Editore was founded in Latina on 7 September 2015 by Dario Petti. Petti, born in Latina in 1973, is a publicist journalist and essayist who graduated in Sociology from Sapienza University of Rome and in Sciences of History and Documents from the University of Tor Vergata in Rome. The publishing house was established with the intention of narrating the submerged stories of local communities through essays and narrative, reflecting a belief that knowledge of one another can strengthen community bonds and human warmth. In its early years, the publisher focused on local and community histories, but it soon opened up to publications of a more general character. Over time, its catalogue expanded to include essays on history, politics and European integration, as well as narrative fiction and poetry. The house has also been active in organizing public presentations, literary festivals, history workshops and writing projects, becoming a recognizable cultural actor in the Latina area. A notable recent publication is a volume collecting the proceedings of a study conference dedicated to the political and moral legacy of Altiero Spinelli on the fortieth anniversary of his death. The conference, which was a candidate for non-repayable funding from the Italian Ministry of Culture, was organized by the Istituto di Studi Federalisti "Altiero Spinelli" in collaboration with the Spinelli Library of the Lazio Region and the European Documentation Centre of Roma Tre University. The volume, featuring contributions from experts in law, history and European integration, reconstructs Spinelli's human, intellectual and political journey from his confinement to his engagement in European institutions. The editorial team includes Sara Rossi, born in Rome in 1997, who studied Publishing and Writing at Sapienza University of Rome and works as a writer, editor and author of texts for companies and individuals; and Claudia Montecalvo, born in Latina in 2000, a graduate in Modern Literature from Sapienza University of Rome, who handles editing and proofreading. As of 2024, the publisher continues to operate as an independent house based in Latina.
