Overview

Auto-Scholz is a family-owned German automotive retail and service group headquartered in Bamberg, Bavaria. Founded in 1894 by Hermann Scholz as an automobile repair workshop in Liegnitz, Lower Silesia, the company has been a Mercedes-Benz contract partner since 1904 and is recognized as the world's second-oldest Mercedes-Benz partner. After World War II, the business was rebuilt in Bamberg with the help of former employees from Silesia, and it has since grown into a major regional dealer group. The group operates 21 dealerships across Bavaria (Bamberg, Bayreuth, Kulmbach, Forchheim, Höchstadt/Aisch, Pegnitz, Nürnberg), Thuringia (Jena, Gera, Altenburg, Eisenberg, Schmölln) and Saxony-Anhalt (Zeitz), plus Leipzig and Crimmitschau in Saxony. It sells and services Mercedes-Benz passenger cars, vans and trucks, as well as smart, FUSO, Porsche, Volkswagen, Aston Martin, Mitsubishi Fuso and several caravan brands, and provides Audi service. The group also acts as a service and brokerage partner for Mercedes-Benz and Setra buses, offers complete service for trailers, semi-trailers and bodies, and operates its own paint center and car/van rental. Auto-Scholz is owned by managing director Michael Eidenmüller, a great-grandson of the founder, through Star Holding GmbH and M. Eidenmüller GmbH. The group employs more than 900 people, including around 200 apprentices. In 2021, it opened the Auto-Scholz Center of Experience in Bamberg, a new 16.7 million euro facility built according to Mercedes-Benz brand architecture. The group remains a leading automotive dealer in its regions, combining tradition with modern retail and online services.

History

Auto-Scholz was founded in 1894 by Hermann Scholz as a workshop for automobile repair in Liegnitz, Lower Silesia (now Legnica, Poland). On 1 April 1904, Scholz signed an automobile supply contract with Carl Benz, making Auto-Scholz the world's second-oldest Mercedes-Benz partner. After World War II, the business was rebuilt in Bamberg with the support of former employees from Silesia. In 1956, Auto-Scholz took over the workshop on Luisenstraße from the then Daimler representative. Starting in 1965, branch operations were opened in Forchheim, Höchstadt, Hollfeld and Ebern. In 1992, Michael Eidenmüller, a great-grandson of the founder, took over as managing director. In the same year, the company began building operations in Jena, Gera, Altenburg, Schmölln and Eisenberg together with Michael Pickel and Ulrich Weise. In 2000, Auto-Scholz acquired the Scheuerecker operations in Bayreuth, Pegnitz and Bad Berneck, as well as Karl Dörnhöfer and Gemeinder in Kulmbach. In 2001, the Porsche Zentrum Bamberg was taken over and newly built, followed in 2003 by the acquisition of Porsche Zentrum Nürnberg-Fürth-Erlangen. In 2006, the Volkswagen Zentrum Bamberg with three locations in Bamberg was acquired. In the same year, the company purchased the property and opened the Audi service operation in Bamberg, Kronacher Straße. In 2007, the new Volkswagen Zentrum Bamberg was built and opened. In 2013, the TruckWorks diagnostic center opened in Bamberg. On 20 May 2017, a newly built Porsche Zentrum in Bayreuth opened, with which Auto-Scholz took over the Porsche market area Bayreuth-Hof from Motor Nützel. In 2021, a new business building named Auto-Scholz Center of Experience was constructed on the company premises in Kärntenstraße in Bamberg according to Mercedes-Benz brand architecture, with a total investment of 16.7 million euros. Today, the group operates 21 dealerships and employs over 900 people, including around 200 apprentices.
