Overview
Avesco AG is a Swiss trading and service company founded in 2001, headquartered in Langenthal in the canton of Bern. It focuses on the trade and service of construction machinery, construction equipment and systems for decentralized power and heat generation, and also operates a rental business. The company develops customer- and project-specific products as well. According to its own statements, it is the largest construction machinery trading company in Switzerland and a dealer for brands such as Caterpillar, Ammann, Sandvik, Terex, Bauer, Schwing-Stetter, Fliegl, Kaeser and Endress. The corporate group includes subsidiaries in Switzerland, the Baltic countries of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, as well as in Finland, and a branch in Austria. Avesco AG is managed by the fifth generation of the family. Daniela Aeschlimann-Schneider represents the family on the board of directors, where she holds the position of deputy chair. As of 1 January 2022, the company employed around 1,100 people, 630 of them in Switzerland. The company's history dates back to 1869 with the founding of the Ammann Mühlebauwerkstatt in Madiswil, and it has been closely linked to Caterpillar since 1931. In 2001, the former Ulrich Ammann AG was renamed Avesco AG, while remaining part of the Ammann Group but operating as an independent legal entity. Avesco continues to expand its product range and market presence, including the acquisition of the Caterpillar dealership in Finland in 2020 and the Baltic dealerships in 2016.
History
The history of Avesco AG goes back to 1869, when the Ammann Mühlebauwerkstatt was founded in Madiswil. In 1896, the company headquarters was moved to Langenthal. A milestone was the production of the first Ammann motor road rollers in 1911. To intensify the distribution of its products, the Caterpillar Tractor Co., founded in 1925, began to enter into dealerships in Europe and other regions from the late 1920s, often with family businesses. In Switzerland, Ulrich Ammann AG was chosen as partner in 1931. This business relationship continues to this day. The history and development of Ulrich Ammann AG and later Avesco AG are closely linked to the partnership with Caterpillar. The trade agreement between the two companies made the company the second Caterpillar dealer in Europe after the one for the French market. From the beginning, the offering included maintenance and repair services in addition to the sale of construction machinery. In 1999, the Bautechnik division was founded, introducing new products such as Tamrock, Sandvik, Rammer and SIG. Since 2001, Ulrich Ammann AG has operated as Avesco AG. Avesco remains part of the Ammann Group but acts as an independent company legally. Ammann took this step to focus on the development and distribution of its own machines under the Ammann brand. Avesco has continuously expanded its product range since then. Kaeser compressors and Endress power generators were added to the offering. Furthermore, Avesco Rent AG was founded in 2002 to serve the rental business. In 2005, the subsidiary Chronoflex began operations, offering mobile hydraulic services. The production site for combined heat and power plants (CHP) was opened in Bubendorf in 2006, and Avesco took over the exclusive representation of Schwing Stetter for concrete pumping products. The partnership with HITEC Power Protection in 2007 expanded the product range in the area of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) as exclusive distribution partner in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The distribution of Thwaites dumpers in Switzerland began in 2008. Avesco expanded its offering in mobile processing in 2010 by adding new products from Terex Finlay and Backers. The subsidiary FastRent was founded in 2014 to offer a 100% online platform for the rental of construction machinery. In 2015, Avesco took over the distribution and service of Sandvik machines in Austria and Klemm machines in Switzerland. For this purpose, an Avesco branch was established near Linz. In 2016, Avesco expanded its presence in the Baltic states. Three national Avesco companies based in Riga (Latvia), Tallinn (Estonia) and Vilnius (Lithuania) with around 140 employees joined the Avesco Group. In 2017, they took over the distribution and customer service of Bauer products in Switzerland. In 2019, the company took over the distribution of Fliegl heavy-duty push-off trailers on the Swiss market, and in 2020 the Caterpillar dealership in Finland from the previous distributor Witraktor (Wihuri Group). In addition, Rufener Kipper crawler dumpers were added to the offering. With the takeover of the dealership in the Baltic states Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania in 2016, Avesco AG was able to expand its sales territory for Caterpillar products. This was further expanded in 2021 by the completed acquisition of the dealership in Finland.
