Overview

Axure RP is described on its official site as a UX tool that gives UX professionals the power to build realistic, functional prototypes, with features such as interaction events, conditional logic, dynamic content, working forms, multi-state containers, data-driven interfaces, and adaptive views, all without code. The company's own account states that in 2002 the founders were working for a start-up in the Bay Area and started Axure to make software projects better, creating a tool called RP (Rapid Prototyping) that allowed non-programmers to build interactive prototypes with documentation.

History

According to Axure's company page, in 2002 the founders were working for a start-up in the Bay Area and were frustrated by limitations of the typical software development life cycle: product and design teams had difficulty evaluating solutions before writing specifications, and developers did not understand or read the specifications they were given. Having worked as project managers and developers, they started Axure to discover how to make software projects better. They decided to create a simple tool that would allow non-programmers to build interactive prototypes with documentation; the product was called RP, for Rapid Prototyping. Its features supported building a prototype to test solutions and gather feedback, iterating until reaching the right solution, and presenting the prototype as part of the specification to align development. The company page states that was 20 years ago.
