Overview

B.A. Entertainment (Korean: 비에이엔터테인먼트) is a South Korean film and television production company founded in January 2013 and headquartered in Mapo-gu, Seoul. The company's name is explained on its own website as standing for "Best Associates," meaning "together with the best partners." It is led by CEO Jang Won-seok, a producer who has become one of the most commercially successful figures in contemporary Korean cinema. B.A. Entertainment operates across the full production chain — planning, pre-production, production, post-production, promotion and marketing — and describes its goal as building a system that manages each title toward profitability from the earliest planning stage. The company positions itself around three pillars of film distribution: projects, know-how and capital, arguing that securing high-quality projects is the most important of the three. It also states an ambition to become the first Korean company centered on a producer and a producer-driven system, and to grow into an "Asia No.1 studio." The company's filmography is dominated by commercial genre cinema. Its breakout franchise is the Crime City / The Roundup series, which began with The Outlaws (범죄도시) in 2017 and continued with The Roundup (2022), The Roundup: No Way Out (2023) and The Roundup: Punishment (2024). Other theatrical releases include Forgotten (2017), Unstoppable (2018), The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil (2019), Long Live the King (2019), Tazza: One Eyed Jack (2019), Beasts Clawing at Straws (2020), Intruder (2020), Me and Me (2020), Spiritwalker (2021), Men of Plastic (2022), The Devil's Deal (2023), Rebound (2023), Road to Boston (2023), Open the Door (2023) and The Woman in the White Car (2025). On the television and streaming side, B.A. Entertainment has produced or co-produced drama series for Korean broadcasters and global platforms, including the Netflix special episode Kingdom: Ashin of the North (2021), the Disney+ original Big Bet (2022–2023), the TVING original House of Lies (2022), SBS's Revenant (2023) and Flex X Cop (2024) with its sequel Flex X Cop 2 (2026), JTBC's The Art of Negotiation (2025) and Beyond the Bar (2025), the Disney+ original Seoul Busters (2024), and SBS's Taxi Driver 3 (2025). Upcoming titles listed on the company's site include the films The King's Warden (2026) and Final Table (2026). B.A. Entertainment presents itself as a content leader driving "innovation and change" in film and drama, and pairs its commercial slate with a stated social commitment to supporting short films and independent cinema for the diverse development of the Korean film industry. It remains a privately held company.

History

B.A. Entertainment was established as a stock company (주식회사 비에이엔터테인먼트) in January 2013. Its name is explained on the company's own site as standing for "Best Associates," meaning "together with the best partners." The company is led by CEO Jang Won-seok, who has been associated with many of its productions. In its early years the company built a slate of mid-budget commercial films. Its 2015 release The Chronicles of Evil (악의 연대기) was followed in 2016 by Tunnel (터널), a disaster thriller that became a significant commercial success. The year 2017 was a turning point: B.A. Entertainment released Forgotten (기억의 밤) in November and, in October, The Outlaws (범죄도시), the crime action film starring Ma Dong-seok that launched what became the company's flagship franchise. The company followed with Unstoppable (성난황소) in 2018 and, in 2019, a trio of releases — The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil (악인전), Long Live the King (롱 리브 더 킹: 목포영웅) and Tazza: One Eyed Jack (타짜: 원 아이드 잭). The 2020–2021 period saw B.A. Entertainment expand into streaming. It released Beasts Clawing at Straws, Intruder and Me and Me in 2020, then Spiritwalker in 2021. In July 2021 it produced the Netflix special episode Kingdom: Ashin of the North, a spin-off of the hit Kingdom series, extending its reach to a global platform audience. The company's biggest commercial breakthrough came in May 2022 with The Roundup (범죄도시2), the sequel to The Outlaws, which became one of the highest-grossing Korean films ever. In the same year it released Men of Plastic and the TVING original House of Lies, and launched the Disney+ original Big Bet, whose second season followed in early 2023. From 2023 onward B.A. Entertainment maintained a high-volume output across film and television. Its 2023 releases included The Devil's Deal, Rebound, The Roundup: No Way Out, Road to Boston and Open the Door, alongside the SBS drama Revenant. In 2024 it released The Roundup: Punishment, the Disney+ original Seoul Busters and the SBS drama Flex X Cop. In 2025 it released the film The Woman in the White Car and the dramas The Art of Negotiation and Beyond the Bar for JTBC and Taxi Driver 3 for SBS. Titles listed for 2026 include the film The King's Warden and the drama Flex X Cop 2, with Final Table also slated. Throughout its history the company has described its operating philosophy as managing every production toward profitability from the planning stage through pre-production, production, post-production, promotion and marketing. It has also stated an ambition to become the first Korean company centered on a producer and a producer-driven system, and to grow into an "Asia No.1 studio." Alongside commercial film production, it says it supports short films and independent cinema as part of its social responsibility.
