BDO AG is one of the largest audit, trust and advisory firms in Switzerland, headquartered in Zurich. It provides services in audit, financial services, trust and accounting, tax and legal advisory, and business consulting. Its clients include small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), large corporations, listed companies, public administrations and non-profit organisations. In the 2025 financial year, BDO employed around 1,800 people at more than 40 locations across Switzerland and generated revenue of CHF 293.6 million. The firm was founded in 1932 as Visura Treuhand-Gesellschaft in Zurich. At the end of 2000 it was renamed BDO Visura, and it has operated under the name BDO AG since 2009. Since 1992, BDO Switzerland has been part of the global BDO network, which is represented in over 160 countries and serves internationally oriented clients. Ownership is largely in the hands of the firm's partners: 80.5 percent of shares are held by partners active in executive roles at BDO, while a further 19.5 percent are held by the company's own pension foundation. Since 1 January 2021, Thomas Studhalter has led BDO Switzerland as CEO. The management team also includes the heads of the five regional directorates and the heads of the product areas audit, trust, tax & legal, and the COO. BDO is present throughout Switzerland with more than 40 locations. It is licensed by the Swiss Federal Audit Oversight Authority (RAB) as a state-supervised audit firm, which entitles it to conduct statutory annual and consolidated financial statement audits for public interest entities, including listed companies and other regulated institutions. BDO also holds RAB licences to audit banks, securities firms, asset managers and fintech companies, and acts as auditor for self-regulatory and supervisory organisations. In addition, BDO is appointed by the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) as an agent for audits, investigations and other supervisory mandates at licensed financial intermediaries; these mandates are carried out by BDO Financial Services. Through its BDO Digital business segment, the firm promotes digitalisation among Swiss companies. Its offering includes strategy development, process optimisation, cyber security, IT consulting, the operation of modern IT infrastructures and digital outsourcing solutions. BDO also supports clients on sustainability and ESG reporting, from strategy to audit-ready implementation, covering standards such as ESRS, GRI and VSME. In its 2025 annual report, BDO continued the positive business development of recent years, achieving revenue of CHF 293.6 million, an increase of 4.2 percent over the previous year.
