Overview

BiVi Numazu (ビビぬまづ) is a four-storey mixed-use commercial complex directly adjoining the north exit of Numazu Station in Numazu, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. It is operated by Daiwa Lease Co., Ltd., a member of the Daiwa House Group. The building is part of the BiVi chain of shopping centres, which also includes BiVi Fujieda, BiVi Sendai Station East Exit, BiVi Nijo and BiVi Fukuoka. The complex is organised by floor: the first floor concentrates food and service tenants, the second floor is given over almost entirely to parking, the third floor houses amusement facilities, and the fourth floor formerly contained a cinema complex. The first floor mixes restaurants, a convenience store (Lawson), retail and service outlets, and a bank branch. Restaurants on the first floor are described as having clearly defined themes, with some aiming at a small-scale 'food theme park' feel and many featuring elaborate interior fittings; some also offer takeaway. BiVi Numazu is known locally as the first facility in Numazu to include a full-scale cinema complex, which made it a familiar landmark for residents. The site was originally a paid parking lot serving the surrounding commercial district — including 'Kiramesse Numazu', built on the former Japanese National Railways Numazu engine depot site — and users of Numazu Station. After completion, a full floor of the building was set aside for parking. The third-floor amusement area includes a game centre that is not manufacturer-operated, allowing it to stock game machines not found in the manufacturer-run arcades concentrated at the south exit of Numazu Station. The game centre devotes half its floor to medal games and prize games, making it family-friendly rather than purely gamer-oriented. It notably installed nine satellite cabinets of the arcade game 'Love Live! School Idol Festival ~after school ACTIVITY~ Next Stage', reflecting Numazu's status as the setting of 'Love Live! Sunshine!!'. A combined comic and internet café on the same floor, Apresio, was one of the few 24-hour venues near Numazu Station and became a new late-night leisure spot at the north exit, but it closed on 31 March 2019. The fourth-floor cinema complex, Cinema Sunshine Numazu, operated eight screens with reserved seating and full-seat-changeover scheduling. It was the only cinema in the immediate vicinity of Numazu Station's north exit. In 2019 the film 'Love Live! Sunshine!! The School Idol Movie Over the Rainbow', set in Numazu, was screened there as a chain master — unusual for a regional venue. On 7 October 2025 it was announced that the cinema would close on 12 April 2026; the operator had already opened 'Cinema Sunshine LaLaport Numazu', equipped with IMAX and 4DX, at LaLaport Numazu in 2019, making the closure of the BiVi site largely a foregone conclusion once the LaLaport location opened.

History

BiVi Numazu occupies a site at the north exit of Numazu Station in Numazu, Shizuoka Prefecture. The land was originally a paid parking lot serving the surrounding commercial district — which included 'Kiramesse Numazu', built on the former Japanese National Railways Numazu engine depot site — and users of Numazu Station. The four-storey complex was subsequently developed on this site, and after completion a full floor of the building was dedicated to parking. The facility is operated by Daiwa Lease Co., Ltd., a company in the Daiwa House Group. It is part of the BiVi chain of shopping centres, alongside BiVi Fujieda, BiVi Sendai Station East Exit, BiVi Nijo and BiVi Fukuoka. BiVi Numazu became known among residents as the first facility in Numazu to include a full-scale cinema complex. The fourth-floor cinema, Cinema Sunshine Numazu, operated eight screens with reserved seating and full-seat-changeover scheduling, and was the only cinema in the immediate vicinity of Numazu Station's north exit. In 2019 the film 'Love Live! Sunshine!! The School Idol Movie Over the Rainbow', whose setting is Numazu, was screened there as a chain master — an unusual distinction for a regional venue. In the same year, the operator opened 'Cinema Sunshine LaLaport Numazu', equipped with IMAX and 4DX, at LaLaport Numazu, in order to continue film exhibition in the Numazu area. Once the LaLaport location opened, the closure of the BiVi cinema was largely a foregone conclusion. On 7 October 2025 it was announced that Cinema Sunshine Numazu would close on 12 April 2026. The third floor houses amusement facilities. The game centre there is not manufacturer-operated, which allows it to install game machines not found in the manufacturer-run arcades (mainly Sega Entertainment-affiliated) concentrated at the south exit of Numazu Station. It allocates half its floor to medal games and prize games, catering to families as well as gamers. Because Numazu is the setting of 'Love Live! Sunshine!!', the game centre installed nine satellite cabinets of 'Love Live! School Idol Festival ~after school ACTIVITY~ Next Stage'. A combined comic and internet café, Apresio, was one of the few 24-hour establishments near Numazu Station and became a new late-night leisure spot at the north exit, but it closed on 31 March 2019. The first floor concentrates food and service tenants. Restaurants there are described as having clearly defined themes, going a step beyond simply serving dishes to evoke small-scale food theme parks, with many featuring elaborate interior fittings; some also offer takeaway. Tenants have included Chinese restaurant Gunpū, Japanese dining bar Tejina-ya Ichi, curry specialist Curry ni Omakase!, seafood izakaya Hana no Mai, and crêpe and gelato shop Dipper Dan. Retail and service tenants have included Lawson convenience store, Pastel variety goods, Sanpō Holistic Garden acupuncture and moxibustion massage clinic, Bowie Plus beauty salon, and Shizuoka Chūō Bank. The first and second floors provide parking: 42 outdoor and 13 indoor spaces on the first floor and 89 indoor spaces on the second floor, for a total of 144 spaces, priced at 150 yen per 30 minutes — the same as the nearby multi-storey car park 'Pico 21' and broadly comparable to, or about 20 percent higher than, other outdoor coin parking. The second floor is almost entirely parking and connects directly to a hall with escalators and elevators, allowing users to enter and leave the air-conditioned facility largely protected from rain and strong wind.
