  In May 2022 Baleno was administratively penalized by Guangzhou market regulators for producing and selling substandard children's clothing; in 2023 it was fined RMB 50,000 for improper prize sales; in March 2026 the menswear of the company behind it failed a moisture-resistance spot check. Over the same period the brand continued to shrink, with stores falling from about 4,044 in 2012 to about 600; the Shanghai company was sold in 2016; and it lost about HK$199 million in fiscal 2021.
