Overview

Busverkehr Oder-Spree GmbH (BOS) is a German omnibus transport company based in the Oder-Spree district of Brandenburg. It was founded in 1990 and operates as a subsidiary of DB Regio, the regional transport division of Deutsche Bahn. Within the DB group, BOS belongs to the DB Regio Bus business field. Ownership is split between DB Regio AG, which holds 51 percent, and the Oder-Spree district, which holds 49 percent. The company provides regional and urban bus services across the Oder-Spree district and neighbouring areas, connecting towns such as Fürstenwalde, Beeskow, Erkner, Eisenhüttenstadt and Müllrose. It maintains five modern operating locations in these towns, where vehicle deployment is coordinated and customer service is managed. BOS operates its own bus workshops at its main sites to ensure vehicle reliability. The company is integrated into the Berlin-Brandenburg transport network (Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg, VBB), and its services are marketed under the VBB fare and information system. BOS has grown through both organic service expansion and acquisition. In 2004 it took over the Eisenhüttenstädter Personennahverkehr GmbH (EPNV). By 2007 it was carrying approximately 7.4 million passengers annually on 40 routes using 103 buses. In 2012 its annual revenue was about 14.5 million euros, and it employed roughly 166 staff plus 4 apprentices. More recently, the company has expanded its PlusBus network, a higher-quality bus service category within the VBB. Since December 2022, lines 420 and 435 have operated as PlusBus Oderland-Spree; line 400 was upgraded in August 2023, and line 440 followed in February 2025. A PlusBus Airport-Region line, route 428, was introduced in September 2024 in cooperation with the Regionale Verkehrsgesellschaft Dahme-Spreewald. BOS also briefly operated a night bus service in Fürstenwalde during 2023. The company positions itself as a modern, reliable regional mobility provider, emphasising passenger comfort, punctuality and customer service. Its fleet includes modern bus models such as the MAN Lion's City A20 Ü, and it maintains an active presence on social media and through passenger surveys. With around 192 employees according to its own website, BOS remains a key public transport operator in eastern Brandenburg.

History

Busverkehr Oder-Spree GmbH (BOS) was founded in 1990, in the period of German reunification, as a bus transport company for the Oder-Spree district in Brandenburg. It became a subsidiary of DB Regio, the regional transport arm of Deutsche Bahn. Within the DB group, BOS is assigned to the DB Regio Bus business field. The ownership structure is a public-private partnership: DB Regio AG holds 51 percent of the shares, while the Oder-Spree district holds 49 percent. In 2004, BOS expanded through the acquisition of Eisenhüttenstädter Personennahverkehr GmbH (EPNV), consolidating bus services in the Eisenhüttenstadt area. By 2007, the company was carrying approximately 7.4 million passengers per year on 40 routes with a fleet of 103 buses. In 2012, BOS reported annual revenue of about 14.5 million euros and employed around 166 people plus 4 apprentices. Over time, the company has modernised its fleet and infrastructure, operating from five locations in Fürstenwalde, Beeskow, Erkner, Eisenhüttenstadt and Müllrose, with its own bus workshops at the main sites. A significant development in recent years has been the expansion of the PlusBus network, a higher-quality bus service category within the Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg (VBB). On 11 December 2022, lines 420 and 435 began operating as PlusBus Oderland-Spree. Line 420 runs from Erkner station via Woltersdorf and Schöneiche to Neuenhagen station, extending the previous route and adding five new stops to connect the commercial area north of Schöneiche. Line 435 runs from Fürstenwalde station via Rauen and Reichenwalde to Storkow station. These lines typically use MAN Lion's City A20 Ü buses, with articulated MAN buses also possible. On 26 August 2023, line 400 was upgraded to PlusBus, running from Beeskow station via Grunow to Eisenhüttenstadt station. On 1 September 2024, line 428 became PlusBus Airport-Region, operating from Erkner station via Neu Zittau and Wernsdorf to Königs Wusterhausen station, jointly with the Regionale Verkehrsgesellschaft Dahme-Spreewald. With the timetable change on 9 February 2025, a fifth PlusBus line, route 440, was introduced between Fürstenwalde station and Beeskow station; this required renumbering several lines in the eastern part of the district (former 440–444 became 460–464, and former 445–448 became 455–458). In addition to its regular network, BOS experimented with night bus services. During the 2022 timetable year, from 1 May 2023 until the timetable change on 10 December 2023, a night bus line N11 operated in Fürstenwalde on Friday-to-Saturday and Saturday-to-Sunday nights, largely following the route of line 411. The company continues to be a key mobility provider in the Oder-Spree district, integrated into the VBB network and maintaining a fleet of modern buses.
