Overview
C3 TV is a Brazilian pay-television channel focused on climate change, weather, and environmental issues. It belongs to Grupo Climatempo, a Brazilian meteorological company. The channel was originally launched in 1999 as TV Climatempo, providing weather forecasts and bulletins for cities across Brazil. Over the years it evolved, rebranding as Climatempo Bio in 2019 to emphasize sustainability and environmental programming, and finally becoming C3 TV on 23 September 2023. The channel is distributed by major Brazilian pay-TV operators and offers a mix of news, documentaries, and viewer-generated content about climate phenomena. Its programming includes C3 News, C3 Doc, and C3 Testemunhe, the latter inviting viewers to submit their own footage of climate events. The channel's founders are Carlos Magno and Ana Lúcia Frony, who also founded Climatempo. C3 TV aims to inform and raise awareness about climate change and its impacts, leveraging partnerships with meteorological institutes.
History
C3 TV traces its origins to 1999, when it was launched as TV Climatempo, a Brazilian pay-TV channel dedicated to weather forecasting. The channel provided hourly bulletins presented by Maria Clara Machado and Luiz Henrique Casoni, covering forecasts for over one hundred cities and five-day outlooks for capitals. It also offered interactive and customizable information, such as air humidity levels for various cities. The channel gained national recognition through distribution on Sky, but after a regulatory classification change by Ancine, it was removed from Sky's lineup on 13 January 2013. On 1 January 2016, TV Climatempo returned to Sky on channel 106 (now channel 170). By 2016, the channel reached nine million homes, having secured carriage on Sky and Vivo, and renewed contracts with GVT (now Vivo) and Oi. In 2019, the channel rebranded as Climatempo Bio, shifting its focus to sustainability, environment, and quality of life programming. On 23 September 2023, Climatempo Bio ceased operations and was replaced by C3 TV on the operators that carried it. C3 TV was conceived by Climatempo founders Carlos Magno and Ana Lúcia Frony. Its programming includes weather information and news, along with programs and documentaries exclusively dedicated to climate change.
