Overview

C+C Records is a Norwegian independent record label founded in 1995 by Christer Falck and Christer Hansen. The label was established after Falck saw jazz and tapping guitarist Ole Staveteig perform on Aker Brygge and wanted to buy his record. Staveteig had nothing to sell, so they agreed to release a record together. The record sold 3,000 copies in two weeks, prompting Falck and Hansen to expand the repertoire. They created a new label, Ironic Recordings, intended for rock records, while the rest would be gathered under C+C Records. Ironic Recordings was to be a label with a common thread, while C+C Records would function as a miniature major company. Many records were released quickly. Ole Staveteig's releases sold best, while most other records went into deficit. The first artistic and commercial success came in 1998, when the Kongsvinger electronic duo Päronsoda sold 10,000 copies and won the Spellemannprisen that year. In 2000, Christer Hansen chose to leave the company to start the metal label Black Balloon. Frode Lia took his place, and Frode Records was established. The goal of this sub-label was to gather all singer-songwriters on one label to more easily promote the music abroad. Frode Lia made his producer debut on Karen Jo Fields' debut album Embrace Me. This record was partly financed by Christer Falck's winnings from TV3's Robinsonekspedisjonen. The album was a great success, and her next album Chase The Blue sold 20,000 copies and contained two single successes, "Chase The Blue" and "Let's Talk About Love". Subsequently, C+C Records has had great success with rap artists Tungtvann, Jaa9 & OnklP, Tommy Tee, Warlocks, and Darkside Of The Force. In addition, C+C Records had a hit with Lene Alexandra and her song "My Boobs Are OK". In 2008, C+C Records had great success with the Cuban jazz/Norwegian folk song project Hovedøen Social Club, which had a triumphant run on Norwegian radio stations. In 2009, Frode Records released the album Mainly Mute with Larvik-based Bellman, and in 2010 Asbjørn Ribe debuted in sixth place on VG-lista with the album Ornand Vet Hvordan. In 2009, Frode Lia started the football magazine Josimar, and in 2010 Christer Falck started the book publisher Falck Forlag. C+C Records was owned 50/50 by Christer Falck and Frode Lia. The label's official website lists contact information for both, with an address at P.B. 23 Vålerenga, N-0626 Oslo. The website also features a shop for online music purchases and promotes various albums, including a Prince tribute album and releases by Bellman and Iram Haq. The label remains active, with its most recent notable releases including Bellman's Mainly Mute and Asbjørn Ribe's Ornand Vet Hvordan.
