It was founded in Lund, Sweden in 1994 and has global headquarters in Lund, Sweden. The company has market support offices in 13 markets and a presence in over 40 countries. In 2018, CellaVision was listed on the NASDAQ Stockholm, Mid Cap, and in 2019 it acquired RAL Diagnostics.

In 2008, CellaVision launched the Body Fluid Application. In 2009, CellaVision launched the DM1200. In 2013, the CellaVision Proficiency Software and the Sysmex DI-60 were launched. In 2014, CellaVision launched the DM9600 and the CellaVision Advanced RBC software. In 2015, CellaVision Academy, an online training resource, was introduced. In 2018, CellaVision was listed on the NASDAQ Stockholm, Mid Cap. In 2019, CellaVision acquired RAL Diagnostics, providing the company with the ability to further improve the quality of sample preparation.
