Overview
CEM was founded in 1978 by Dr. Michael J. Collins, Ronald Goetchius, and Bill Cruse Jr. It designs and develops laboratory instrumentation and scientific methods, both microwave-based and non-microwave technologies, used by major companies, research institutes, and universities. It is a private company with global headquarters outside Charlotte, North Carolina, and offices in England, Germany, Japan, France, Italy, Singapore, and Ireland. Its major products provide solutions for compositional analysis of food and chemical samples, acid digestion for elemental analysis, and chemical synthesis of peptides and small molecules.
History
CEM was founded in 1978 by Dr. Michael J. Collins, Ronald Goetchius, and Bill Cruse Jr. based on a microwave drying concept for moisture/solids analysis. The three founders formed CEM Corporation near Charlotte, NC USA, and developed the first microwave laboratory instrument for moisture/solids analysis, which reduced analysis times from hours to minutes. In 1982, CEM expanded its product offering to include a new Solvent Extraction System.
