Overview

CISDI's official website presents business segments including high-end consulting, metallurgical technology, equipment manufacturing, data intelligence, industry-city integration, and energy and environmental protection. It states that CISDI provides engineering technology system support and core technology and equipment products for the global metals industry, especially the steel industry, and that it has achieved independent controllability in core processes, equipment, model control, and materials science across the full steel production process. The site also states that for more than sixty years it has continuously provided quality design and technical support for the steel industry, and that it is one of two consulting partners of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank in the engineering technology field.

History

CISDI's origins date to 1958, when the Anshan Black Metallurgical Design Institute was relocated in its entirety to Chongqing by the Ministry of Metallurgical Industry, establishing a national large-scale Grade A metallurgical design unit. In the decades that followed, CISDI participated in the design and construction of most of China's major steel bases. It independently designed the Panzhihua Iron and Steel Base, the first large-scale steel base built entirely with China's own capabilities, and served as general contractor for the design of Baosteel, China's first modern large-scale integrated steel complex. These projects contributed significantly to building China's independent and complete industrial system and to the modernization of its steel industry. Since the 1960s, CISDI has been involved in the design and construction of most large domestic steel bases. In the reform era, CISDI evolved from a traditional design institute into a technology-driven enterprise, developing proprietary core technologies and equipment across the full steelmaking process. It pioneered the export of Chinese steel engineering technology, designing and building major coastal greenfield steel bases along the Belt and Road Initiative, such as Formosa Ha Tinh Steel in Vietnam and the Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park integrated steel project. In recent years, CISDI has undertaken overseas contracts worth over RMB 40 billion, driving more than RMB 20 billion in Chinese equipment exports. The company has also become a leader in industrial internet platforms and intelligent manufacturing for the metallurgical industry, combining over 60 years of industrial knowledge with digital technologies. Its CISDigital AI system and industrial internet platform have been recognized nationally, and it has collaborated with over a hundred benchmark enterprises across 18 industries including metallurgy and mining, creating national-level lighthouse smart factories and generating annual customer benefits exceeding RMB 5 billion. CISDI has also made breakthroughs in green low-carbon technologies, including the world's first 3R carbon-hydrogen blast furnace at Hebei Zongheng Steel, the CISDI-SuperArc green intelligent electric arc furnace, and hydrogen-based shaft furnaces. The company continues to expand into non-ferrous metals and new materials, aiming to become a world-class technology-based technical service enterprise in the metal mining and metallurgical engineering field.

Products and positioning

  • 3R Low-Carbon Blast Furnace

Original CISDI technology for stable, efficient blast furnace operation with dual breakthroughs in emission reduction and cost reduction. World's first 2000m³-class 3R carbon-hydrogen blast furnace built at Hebei Zongheng Steel, reducing carbon by 5%-10% compared to conventional furnaces. Selected for the green low-carbon technology catalog of the NDRC and Ministry of Ecology and Environment.

  • CISDI-SuperArc Green Intelligent Electric Arc Furnace

A new-generation electric arc furnace independently developed by CISDI, integrating high efficiency, low carbon, intelligence, and environmental protection. Equipped with IGBT flexible DC power supply system and scrap continuous charging and preheating system. Compared with traditional horizontal charging EAF, it shortens smelting cycle by 14%, reduces power consumption by 9%, electrode consumption by 9%, and carbon emissions by 9%. Successfully applied at Sichuan Panchang Steel, Yunnan Xianfu, and Xingcheng Special Steel.

  • High-Efficiency Low-Consumption Super-Large Blast Furnace Technology

A core technology system covering process, design, equipment, and intelligent control for super-large blast furnaces, developed over 20 years. Applied to over 20 super-large blast furnaces including Formosa Vietnam's two 4350m³ furnaces and Baosteel Zhanjiang's two 5050m³ furnaces. Saves about 396,000 tons of standard coal and reduces carbon emissions by about 1.045 million tons annually. Won the 2016 National Science and Technology Progress Award (Second Class).

  • Universal Section Steel Key Process Equipment and Control Technology

Includes BDCD series blooming mills, UMCD series universal mills, and RSCD series section straighteners.
