Overview

Clearspeed is a voice-based risk assessment platform. According to its official site, it analyzes the signal in the voice to provide a real-time read for decisions, positioning itself as an intelligent trust layer. The company describes its approach as using a short set of yes-or-no questions answered by phone or web, with the voice revealing measurable changes that cannot be coached, profiled, or faked. Clearspeed states it works anywhere, in any language, and gives every person the same fair experience. Its about page traces its origin to Marine officer Alex Martin, who partnered with Stanford professor Chuck Holloway to build a better way to assess risk at the moment of decision. Clearspeed's first major defense client was U.S. Special Operations Command, and in 2018 it screened 715 Afghan commando recruits in under 20 hours. The company also serves banking and financial services, helping identify risk of fraud in the moment.

History

Clearspeed began with Marine officer Alex Martin, whose close friend was killed on a joint patrol in Iraq by an infiltrator who had been vetted and cleared. Martin came home obsessed with how the process cleared someone who never should have been there, and set out to build a better way to assess risk and build trust at the moment of decision. He partnered with Stanford professor Chuck Holloway, and what they found was in the voice — not in what people said, but the changes that occur when someone answers a question where something is at stake. That signal became the foundation for Clearspeed. Clearspeed's first major defense client was U.S. Special Operations Command; in 2018, it screened 715 Afghan commando recruits in under 20 hours, a process that had previously taken months. General David Petraeus, an early investor, called it "outsized value for personnel vetting, insider threat mitigation, and enterprise security."
