Overview

Cloud Endpoints is an API management system that helps you secure, monitor, analyze, and set quotas on your APIs using the same infrastructure Google uses for its own APIs. To have an API managed by Cloud Endpoints, there are three options depending on where the API is hosted and the type of communications protocol it uses: Cloud Endpoints for OpenAPI, Cloud Endpoints for gRPC, and Cloud Endpoints Frameworks for the App Engine standard environment. With Endpoints for gRPC, the API management capabilities of Endpoints can add an API console, monitoring, hosting, tracing, authentication, and more to gRPC services; Endpoints works with either the Extensible Service Proxy (ESP) or the Extensible Service Proxy V2 (ESPv2) to provide API management.

History

Cloud Endpoints is documented as an API management system that helps secure, monitor, analyze, and set quotas on APIs using the same infrastructure Google uses for its own APIs. It is offered in three options depending on where the API is hosted and the type of communications protocol used: Cloud Endpoints for OpenAPI, Cloud Endpoints for gRPC, and Cloud Endpoints Frameworks for the App Engine standard environment. For gRPC, Endpoints works with either the Extensible Service Proxy (ESP) or the Extensible Service Proxy V2 (ESPv2) to provide API management, and once special mapping rules are specified, ESP and ESPv2 translate RESTful JSON over HTTP into gRPC requests.
