Comandante

Comandante is a small, family-run project created by specialty coffee and engineering professionals. It develops and manufactures high performance coffee grinders, burrs, and tools for professionals and enthusiasts, with grinders and burrs manufactured and assembled just outside of Munich, Bavaria. Its founder Bernd Braune and his family founded the specialty coffee roastery Supremo just outside Munich in 2005, before Comandante. The iconic C40 grinder with its Nitro Blade burr is described as the original game changer.

In 2005 and long before Comandante, Bernd Braune and his family founded their specialty coffee roastery Supremo just outside Munich, Germany. Striving for delicious coffee, the family made regular trips to meet coffee producers and source their coffees directly, and became heavily involved in Cup of Excellence. Their customers lacked access to the right tools for getting the best out of high valued specialty coffees, and existing electrical grinders were big, heavy, and expensive, making no sense for the typical home user or for sourcing trips. The idea to build expert travel grinders was the logical next step — a precise, high-performing and mobile tool. Bernd, a passionate German engineer who had been working on specialty coffee grinding and extraction for more than a decade, approached grinder manufacturers and industrial burr makers with his vision, but none of them saw the market or understood the need. Comandante is described as a small, family-run project created by specialty coffee and engineering professionals, with grinders and burrs manufactured and assembled by an international team just outside of Munich, Bavaria.

• C40 Mk4 Nitro Blade

  A robust and precise manual coffee grinder with a unique and groundbreaking burr: Nitro Blade. Included are two Bean Jar containers, one brown glass and one clear polymer, each with a capacity of 40 grams of coffee. Made in Germany.

• C40 LAB Series Hammerhead

  A C40 LAB Series grinder with a Hammerhead burr. For over a decade, Comandante founder Bernd Braune has been working on innovative concepts for conical burr sets, and at the Bavarian Burr Lab engineers have been pushing the boundaries of machining technology.
