History

CONICA AG was founded in 1977 in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. From the outset the company focused on liquid plastics and their advantages, with polyurethane forming the basis of its product range. Polyurethane offered high elasticity, protective characteristics, optimal mechanical and chemical resistance, long service life and easier maintenance due to seamless surfaces, making it well suited to sports floors, safety surfaces and industrial floors. Over the following decades CONICA developed, manufactured and supplied high-quality, reliable products for sports and recreational area flooring for use in all climate zones around the world. The company's innovative product portfolio grew to include intelligent system solutions for indoor and outdoor athletics tracks, multifunctional facilities, sports and multi-purpose halls, playgrounds and tennis courts, supplemented by artificial turf, EPDM granules and black granules. In addition to sports flooring, CONICA expanded into liquid plastics for industrial flooring, surface protection and car park systems, as well as water-permeable systems for urban and rural areas. For more than four decades CONICA has established itself as one of the world's market leaders, and it is regarded as the global market leader in cast polyurethane surfaces for athletics. CONICA's surfaces have been used at major international athletics venues. At the 2009 IAAF World Championships in Berlin's Olympic Stadium, Usain Bolt set a 100-metre world record of 9.58 seconds on a CONICA track that was already among the fastest of its kind. Other venues equipped by CONICA include Zurich, Rome, Monaco and Madrid. In 2021 CONICA entered a partnership with the German Athletics Association (DLV), and in 2023 it became a partner of the European Athletic Association (EAA). Since 2013 CONICA has been part of the Serafin Unternehmensgruppe, a Munich-based holding company founded in 2010 by Philipp Haindl, Falk Daum and Dino Kitzinger that invests in medium-sized companies. Serafin's philosophy is based on more than 150 years of entrepreneurial tradition of its shareholding family, and it invests with the aim of fostering long-term development in accordance with all stakeholders.
