Cromwell

Cromwell is a UK tool and industrial supplies business whose own history dates its success story to 1968. It describes itself as supplying essential components that keep customers' operations running and their people safe, delivering over half a million products annually to thousands of businesses throughout the UK using its own fleet of drivers. It offers both trusted third-party brands and its own exclusive products, and provides services including safety, tooling, inventory management and procurement tools.

Cromwell's own history page states that its success story begins in 1968. In 1970 the first UK shop opened in Wilberforce Road, Leicester. In 1974 the first two branches opened in Bedford and Stockton, and in 1975 Nottingham/Coventry branches opened. In 1978 Cromwell Leicester relocated to Freemen's Common. In 1979 Kennedy International was founded, and in 1982 the Kennedy Group was founded. In 1983 the group HQ and central stores opened in Wigston, Leicester, and the Kennedy Metrology Laboratory was founded. In 1987 the first 'Industry meets its Suppliers' exhibition was held at Head Office in Wigston. In 1988 UKAS accreditation was acquired. In 1991 the first Kennedy Tools catalogue was published, and in 1992 £50m turnover was achieved. In 1994 the first Engineering Tools catalogue was published. In 1997 the first overseas branch opened in Johannesburg, South Africa, and email/internet was first used. In 1998 the Supply Point Vending System was launched. In 2000 £100m turnover was achieved, and in 2001 a new purpose-built WDC opened in Wigston, Leicester. The about page also states that more than 50 years later the company is still looking after its customers, and that it has supported proprietary suppliers for over 50 years.
