Overview
CyberFight Co., Ltd., generally known as CyberFight, is a Japanese professional-wrestling parent company headquartered in Tokyo. It was created in 2020 through the consolidation of wrestling businesses connected with CyberAgent, the Japanese digital advertising and internet-services company. Rather than replacing the individual promotions with a single public-facing wrestling brand, CyberFight functions as an umbrella structure. Its principal brands have retained their own names, logos, creative identities and event programs while sharing ownership, corporate administration, commercial resources and strategic planning. The company’s core portfolio initially brought together DDT Pro-Wrestling, Pro Wrestling Noah and Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling, alongside Ganbare☆Pro-Wrestling and the DDT Foods business. DDT traces its origins to the Dramatic Dream Team promotion founded in 1997 by Sanshiro Takagi, Mikami and Nosawa Rongai after their departure from Pro Wrestling Crusaders. The company was incorporated in 2000, adopted the DDT Pro-Wrestling name in 2004 and became a stock company in 2009. Pro Wrestling Noah was founded in 2000 by Mitsuharu Misawa and wrestlers who left All Japan Pro Wrestling after disagreements over the direction of that organization. Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling was developed within the DDT corporate sphere as a women’s wrestling promotion. CyberAgent acquired all of DDT’s shares in September 2017, retaining Takagi as DDT president. It then acquired Pro Wrestling Noah in January 2020 after Noah had passed through several ownership arrangements, including Estbee and Lidet Entertainment. In July 2020, CyberAgent announced the merger of Noah, DDT and DDT Foods into a new company that became CyberFight. The consolidation was partly a response to financial pressure affecting the promotions, intensified by the COVID-19 pandemic. Takagi was appointed CyberFight president and publicly articulated an ambition to expand the group’s audience and eventually compete more directly with New Japan Pro-Wrestling in popularity. The umbrella model allowed the constituent promotions to target different audiences. DDT is associated with a mixture of athletic wrestling, comedy, theatrical storytelling and unconventional match concepts. Noah presents a more serious, traditional and technically oriented style, with emphasis on major singles and tag-team competition. Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling focuses on women’s wrestling and has developed its own roster, championships and entertainment identity. Ganbare☆Pro-Wrestling operated as a separate affiliated brand with a distinctive independent-wrestling ethos until its separation from CyberFight in March 2024. CyberFight promoted its first event under the corporate name, CyberFight Festival 2021, at Saitama Super Arena on June 6, 2021. The festival served as a showcase for the group’s promotions and demonstrated the commercial value of presenting them collectively without eliminating their separate identities. In December 2023, the four CyberFight brands were announced as founding members of United Japan Pro-Wrestling, an alliance intended to support the development and organization of professional wrestling in Japan. In 2024, the corporate structure changed again. CyberFight announced that GanPro would become independent at the end of March, with its final event under the umbrella taking place on March 28. On June 1, 2024, Sanshiro Takagi stepped down as president and became executive vice president, while Yasuo Okamoto became president. CyberFight therefore remains best understood as a portfolio and management company for Japanese wrestling promotions rather than as a single conventional wrestling promotion.
History
CyberFight emerged from the consolidation of wrestling companies assembled by CyberAgent. Its corporate background is rooted principally in DDT Pro-Wrestling and Pro Wrestling Noah, two promotions with different origins and creative traditions. DDT began in 1997 after Sanshiro Takagi, Mikami and Nosawa Rongai left Pro Wrestling Crusaders following the success of the first Judgement event. The new promotion was initially called Dramatic Dream Team. It was incorporated in 2000, with Koichiro Kimura becoming a director, and Shoichi Ichimiya later serving as representative director. In 2004, the company adopted the DDT Pro-Wrestling name. Ichimiya retired from professional wrestling and left the company in December 2005, after which Takagi became the sole owner and president. DDT changed its legal form to a stock company in 2009. Its distinctive blend of athletic wrestling, comedy, spectacle and experimental match formats helped it become one of Japan’s best-known independent promotions. Noah was established in 2000 by Mitsuharu Misawa after his departure from All Japan Pro Wrestling. The split followed disagreements concerning the future direction of All Japan after the death of its founder, Giant Baba, in 1999. Misawa was joined by much of the All Japan roster, and Noah quickly achieved prominence. It received major industry recognition during the early 2000s, including awards for promotion and television programming. Misawa died in June 2009 after suffering a serious spinal injury during a match. Akira Taue succeeded him as president. Noah later experienced significant organizational and commercial difficulties. In 2012, revelations that some members of its management had links to a yakuza syndicate during the preceding decade produced serious repercussions, including the loss of its television program. The promotion subsequently lost several prominent wrestlers. Estbee acquired Noah in 2016, and the company was renamed Noah Global Entertainment later that year. A deteriorating relationship with New Japan Pro-Wrestling contributed to the withdrawal of New Japan wrestlers and was followed by a reported decline in attendance. In January 2019, Lidet Entertainment acquired a 75 percent stake in Noah. CyberAgent’s involvement began with the acquisition of 100 percent of DDT’s shares on September 1, 2017. Takagi remained DDT president, providing continuity while the promotion gained access to a larger digital and commercial organization. CyberAgent then purchased Noah from Lidet Entertainment in January 2020. In July of that year, it announced the creation of a new umbrella company combining Noah, DDT Pro-Wrestling and DDT Foods. The resulting company became CyberFight. The merger was announced against a backdrop of financial pressure at DDT and Noah, with the COVID-19 pandemic worsening the operating environment for live-event businesses. CyberFight’s design was not to erase the constituent promotions. Noah and DDT kept their names and visual identities, while Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling and Ganbare☆Pro-Wrestling operated as additional brands within the broader portfolio. Takagi became CyberFight’s first president and expressed an ambition to grow the combined group and challenge New Japan’s position in the Japanese wrestling market. CyberFight staged its first event under the umbrella name on June 6, 2021. CyberFight Festival 2021 at Saitama Super Arena presented the group’s brands collectively and demonstrated the purpose of the multi-promotion structure. The company later participated in wider industry coordination: in December 2023, its four then-affiliated brands were named founding members of United Japan Pro-Wrestling. The portfolio changed in 2024 when Ganbare☆Pro-Wrestling became independent. The last GanPro event under CyberFight was held on March 28. A further leadership transition took effect on June 1, when Takagi became executive vice president and Yasuo Okamoto took over as president. CyberFight consequently remains a corporate umbrella for major Japanese wrestling promotions, with its business centered on live events, media distribution, talent presentation, championships and brand-specific fan communities.
