Overview

Cyta Shoppingwelt is a shopping centre located in the municipality of Völs in the Austrian state of Tyrol, directly on the city boundary of Innsbruck and west of Innsbruck Kranebitten Airport. The whole site covers roughly 100,000 m², of which 20,521 m² is taken up by the shopping centre itself in the south-east. Its catchment area is estimated at around 400,000 people, drawing shoppers from the greater Innsbruck region and the surrounding Inn valley. The centre opened on 23 September 1993. In 1995 the Hypo Tirol Bank AG took over the Shoppingwelt, and in the following years the centre and its transport links were continuously expanded and improved, with the operator stating that roughly €2 million is invested annually. A flood disaster struck the Cyta hard on 23 August 2005. Since 2016 the Rutter Immobilien Gruppe has owned both the Cyta shopping centre and the adjacent Fachmarktzentrum NORD. Today the Cyta presents itself as a regional retail and leisure destination. According to its own website it hosts 106 shops, 17 food-service operations, six sports and play facilities and more than 2,000 free parking spaces, including an underground garage and a parking deck, free for the duration of a shopping visit (up to four hours). The tenant mix spans retail, gastronomy and services, and the centre also sells Cyta gift vouchers that can be redeemed in all Cyta shops and across the Cyta food-service outlets. The site is well connected: five bus stops serve the area with VVT and IVB lines, Völs railway station (ÖBB) is only a few minutes' walk away, and drivers reach the centre from the Inntalautobahn A12 via the Innsbruck-Kranebitten exit or from the Brenner A13 via the Innsbruck Süd junction. A fuel and rest area on the Cyta grounds rounds off the offering. Cyta Shoppingwelt is a privately held retail property operated under the ownership of the Rutter Immobilien Gruppe. Its address is Cytastraße 1, 6176 Völs, and it communicates with customers through its website cyta.at, by telephone and by e-mail.

History

Cyta Shoppingwelt opened on 23 September 1993 in the municipality of Völs, immediately west of Innsbruck and close to Innsbruck Kranebitten Airport. The centre was built on a site that today covers roughly 100,000 m² in total, with the shopping centre itself occupying 20,521 m² in the south-eastern part of the area. From the outset it was conceived as a regional shopping destination for the greater Innsbruck area, with a catchment of around 400,000 people. In 1995 the Hypo Tirol Bank AG took over the Shoppingwelt. Over the following years the centre and, in particular, its transport connections were continuously expanded and improved. According to the operator, roughly €2 million has been invested annually in the site. On 23 August 2005 a flood disaster hit the Cyta hard, causing significant damage to the centre. Ownership changed again when, in 2016, the Rutter Immobilien Gruppe acquired both the Cyta shopping centre and the Fachmarktzentrum NORD. Under this ownership the centre has continued to operate as a privately held retail property. Its current profile, as presented on its own website, includes 106 shops, 17 food-service operations, six sports and play facilities and more than 2,000 free parking spaces, with bus and rail links (VVT and IVB buses, Völs ÖBB station) and direct motorway access from the A12 and A13.
