Overview
CYZO Inc. (株式会社サイゾー) is a Japanese publishing and digital media company headquartered in Shibuya, Tokyo. It was established in October 2007 when the publishing division of Infobahn, which produced the monthly magazine Cyzo and the news site Nikkan Cyzo, was spun off. The company is led by representative director Ken Ibi (揖斐憲). Its core businesses include the production, publication, and sale of the magazine Cyzo and books, as well as the planning, production, and operation of digital media, various solutions, and event planning. The magazine Cyzo was first launched in May 1999 (June 1999 issue) after a preparatory issue, originally published by Infobahn until the December 2007 issue; from the January 2008 issue onward it has been published by CYZO Inc. The magazine shifted from monthly to bimonthly in 2022 and became a quarterly publication from the August 2023 issue. CYZO Inc. has also been active in developing related web media, including Cyzo Premium, Cyzo Online (formerly Nikkan Cyzo), Cyzo Woman, and Mens Cyzo. Beyond publishing, CYZO Inc. operates a range of web media and solution services such as media consulting, website production, design, e-book development, article content production, film distribution, and advertising. The company has been involved in various web media sites over the years, including Business Journal, TOCANA, and others, some of which have been transferred or discontinued. It also has a comics division, Dogenzaka Shobo, and has been involved in the acquisition of publishers such as Toyo Shoten Shinsha and Natsume Shobo Shinsha. CYZO Inc. has faced controversies related to inaccurate reporting and has issued corrections and apologies for several articles. Despite these issues, it remains an active player in Japanese media and publishing.
History
The magazine Cyzo was first launched in May 1999 (June 1999 issue) after a preparatory issue, published by Infobahn (with sales initially handled by Denpa Jikkensha). In October 2007, the publishing division of Infobahn, which operated Cyzo and Nikkan Cyzo, was spun off to establish CYZO Inc. The new company was founded by Ken Ibi, who had been the editorial manager, with involvement from Hideto Tomabechi, an acquaintance of the first editor-in-chief Hirohito Kobayashi. The magazine continued under CYZO Inc. from the January 2008 issue. CYZO Inc. expanded its web media presence significantly. In August 2006, Nikkan Cyzo was launched (later renewed as Cyzo Online in February 2025). Cyzo Woman started in October 2008, followed by Mens Cyzo in June 2009 and Cyzo Premium in October 2009. The company also launched various other sites such as Business Journal (April 2012), TOCANA (July 2011, later transferred), and many others. Some sites were discontinued or transferred to other companies. In terms of print media, the magazine Cyzo ended its monthly publication with the March 2022 issue, became bimonthly from the April/May 2022 issue, and quarterly from the August 2023 issue. CYZO Inc. also entered the comics business with Dogenzaka Shobo, and acquired publishers such as Toyo Shoten Shinsha and Natsume Shobo Shinsha. The company has faced several controversies over inaccurate reporting, leading to corrections and apologies.
