Overview

Dackelton Records is a German independent record label based in Rheinberg, North Rhine-Westphalia. It was founded in 2018 by music manager Bianca Eysenbrandt as a renaming and restructuring of the earlier label Quasilectric, which had existed since 2012. The change of name accompanied a change of legal form from a civil-law partnership (GbR) into a sole proprietorship, and most of the artists and releases of Quasilectric were carried over to the new label. Quasilectric continues to exist as a sub-label. The label describes itself as an independent music label "with heart and colour" and operates as a small, family-like operation. Eysenbrandt is supported by her daughter Nina, who works on both the label and its festival, and by Lisa, who handles artist booking. The label's mascot and namesake is Charlie, a miniature long-haired dachshund. Musically, Dackelton Records began as a multi-genre label but has increasingly moved toward punk and punk rock. Its roster has included Männi, The Waltons, Sebastian Dey, Und wieder Oktober, Fools Errant, Drei Meter Feldweg, Jack Pott, Grundhass, Jamie Clarke's Perfect and Larrikins, among others. Distribution is handled by Broken Silence of Hamburg. Releases are available in retail, through the label's own shop, and via digital download and streaming platforms. The label also runs an annual festival, formerly the Quasilectric Festival and now the Dackelton Festival, and offers a merchandise service. Web and graphic design is operated separately by Kiki Schülling. The label positions itself around a "feel-good factor", fun and love rather than commercial success, deliberately keeping its roster small and releasing at a measured pace.

History

Dackelton Records is the successor to Quasilectric, a German independent label founded in October 2012 by music manager Bianca Eysenbrandt and the musicians Björn "Bobo" Schülling and Christian "Kiki" Schülling. The founding followed the takeover of the label Scarecrow Sounds (LC 03507). The company was initially based in Moers. In April 2013 the album Falsche Nasen by the band Was wenns regnet was released and distributed across Europe by the Hamburg distributor Aristopunks. After Aristopunks ceased operations, new contracts were signed with New Music Distribution, securing continued European distribution. From 2014 further artists followed, including Kent Coda, the Mondo MashUp Soundsystem, Und wieder Oktober and El Postre. At the end of 2014 New Music Distribution merged with Hamburg's Membran Media GmbH, and distribution became worldwide. In January 2015 the company moved to Rheinberg for organisational reasons. In 2017 a new distribution partner was found in H'Art Musikvertrieb / Bertus. On 18 November 2017, to mark its fifth anniversary, the Quasilectric Festival was held at the Bollwerk 107 in Moers, featuring the rockabilly band Rockameier, the musician Männi with band, Kent Coda, Und wieder Oktober and Was wenns regnet. The label festival has been held annually since then. Quasimedia served as an umbrella term for three business areas: Quasilectric (music releases and occasional booking), Quasimerch (merchandise, printed matter, CD pressing and band services) and the Quasilectrisches Medieninstitut (advertising and graphic agency, web and graphic design for business clients). Dackelton Records was founded in 2018 by Bianca Eysenbrandt as a renaming of the former main label Quasilectric. The renaming resulted from a change of legal form from a partnership into a sole proprietorship. A large part of the artists and their releases transferred to Dackelton Records, including Männi, The Waltons, Sebastian Dey, Und wieder Oktober and Fools Errant. Since then the musical direction has developed further toward punk rock. Other artists on Dackelton Records include Drei Meter Feldweg, Jack Pott, Grundhass, Jamie Clarke's Perfect and Larrikins. The distribution partner is Broken Silence of Hamburg. The label festival now runs under the name Dackelton Festival. With the founding of Dackelton Records a new merchandise service was created within the label, while web and graphic design continues to be operated separately by Kiki Schülling. Quasilectric remains active as a sub-label.
