Overview

Dai-ichi Cutter Kogyo K.K. is a Japanese construction company headquartered in Chigasaki, Kanagawa, listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Standard Market under ticker 1716. Founded in 1966 as a sole proprietorship and incorporated in 1967, the company has built its business around the maintenance and renewal of social infrastructure — roads, bridges, tunnels, airports, plants and buildings. Its core operations are cutting and drilling (concrete cutting, core drilling, wall sawing, wire sawing), water-jet works, surface preparation, sludge intermediate treatment, and building maintenance. The company positions itself as a specialist in "cutting, chipping, washing, peeling and grinding" — the renewal technologies needed to keep aging infrastructure safe. The company operates a nationwide network of sales offices across Japan, from Sapporo and Sendai to Tokyo, Osaka, Hiroshima, Matsuyama and Shimane, and has undertaken overseas projects, beginning with Indonesia in 2005 under ODA. It has pursued innovation in construction methods, developing equipment such as core special vehicles, self-propelled cutters, electric inverter cutter machines and sidewall cutters, and collaborates with general contractors, plant makers, universities and peers to advance industry-wide technical capabilities. Notable large-scale projects include the Yokota Air Base runway renovation (1986) and the Chitose Airport runway renovation (1987). Dai-ichi Cutter Kogyo has expanded through subsidiaries and affiliates including Asile, Wall Cutting Kogyo, Unipeck, Shin-Shin Kogyo and Kyokou Kogyo. It listed on JASDAQ in 2004, moved to the Tokyo Stock Exchange Second Section in 2017, was designated to the First Section in December 2017, and moved to the Standard Market in October 2023. The company also engages in community activities, acquiring naming rights to Chigasaki Central Park in 2021 (nicknamed "Dai-ichi Cutter Kiiro Park") and promoting workforce diversity and branding of skilled workers.

History

Dai-ichi Cutter Kogyo was founded in March 1966 as a sole proprietorship by three classmates, specializing in flat sawing construction. In August 1967, it was incorporated as Dai-ichi Cutter Kogyo K.K. in Yanagishima, Chigasaki, Kanagawa, with capital of 3 million yen. The company expanded its office network early, opening a Sapporo office in 1969, Chiba in 1970, Tochigi in 1973, Mito and Takasaki in 1975, and Tokyo in 1996. It developed core special vehicles in 1971, introduced self-propelled cutters from the United States in 1972 for deep flat sawing, and began core drilling in 1975. In 1977, it started airport lighting works and developed core special vehicles for airports. In the 1980s, the company developed an electric inverter cutter machine (1981) and undertook major projects including the Yokota Air Base runway renovation (1986) and Chitose Airport runway renovation (1987), which became a springboard for future growth. It adopted a new company emblem in 1987 and developed a sidewall cutter in 1991. In 1994, the first female construction employee was hired. In 1995, it executed 200 vertical shafts in an undersea tunnel and began wire sawing, grooving and wall sawing works. It obtained licenses for civil engineering (1998) and industrial waste collection and transport (2001). In 2002, the company launched water-jet works, initially for highway spalling prevention, later expanding to railway viaduct repair after the 2004 Niigata Chuetsu earthquake. The water-jet division became independent in 2005. In June 2004, it listed on JASDAQ (ticker 1716), the first cutting specialist construction company to do so. In February 2005, it undertook its first overseas project in Indonesia under ODA. It acquired Wall Cutting Kogyo as a subsidiary in 2007, Kyokou Kogyo in 2009, established Shin-Shin Kogyo as a joint venture in 2010, and acquired Movable Trade Networks in 2014. In 2017, it moved to the Tokyo Stock Exchange Second Section and was designated to the First Section. It acquired Asile in 2019 and Unipeck in 2020. In 2023, it absorbed Kyokou Kogyo, changed Movable Trade Networks to an equity-method affiliate, and moved to the TSE Standard Market. In April 2020, it changed uniforms to a NASA/JAXA-inspired design to refresh the construction industry image. In April 2021, it acquired naming rights to Chigasaki Central Park, nicknamed "Dai-ichi Cutter Kiiro Park". The company continues to develop new technologies such as the Hydro-Jet RD method and Re:Laser.
