Overview
Daicel-Evonik Corporation is a Japanese joint venture established in July 1970 by Daicel and Germany's Hüls (now Evonik). Based in Shinjuku, Tokyo, it develops and supplies high-performance polymer products including polyamide 12 (Daiamid, Vestamid, Vestosint), transparent polyamide (Trogamid), PEEK (Vestakeep), rubber-polyamide composite sheets (R-COMPO), separation membranes (Sepuran, Puramem) and rigid foams (Rohacell). Its shareholders are HPP Holdings and Evonik Japan, each holding 50%. The company has changed its name several times in line with its parent companies, becoming Daicel-Evonik in 2008, Polyplastics-Evonik in April 2022, and returning to Daicel-Evonik in April 2026.
History
Daicel-Evonik was established in July 1970 as Daicel-Hüls, a joint venture between Daicel and Germany's Hüls (now Evonik). It was renamed Daicel-Degussa in June 2001 following the parent company's name change, and became Daicel-Evonik in January 2008 after Evonik Degussa's renaming. In December 2021 Daicel transferred its stake to its wholly owned subsidiary Polyplastics, and in April 2022 the company was renamed Polyplastics-Evonik. In April 2026 it returned to the name Daicel-Evonik, following Daicel's decision to succeed the engineering plastics business of Polyplastics via absorption-type split and operate it as the High Performance Polymers (HPP) SBU. Over its more than 50-year history it has built a portfolio including polyamide 12, rubber-polyamide composite sheets, transparent polyamide, polarizing sheets based on transparent polyamide, PEEK, monomers, separation membranes and rigid foams.
