Overview

Daikoku Ryutu Chain Co., Ltd. (株式会社大黒流通チェーン) is a Japanese supermarket operating company active in the Greater Tokyo region, chiefly Tokyo, Saitama and Chiba prefectures. It runs supermarkets under banners including Daikokuya (大黒屋), Energy Super Tajima (エネルギースーパーたじま) and Rakomart (ラコマート). The present company is a wholly owned subsidiary of OZAM Co., Ltd., a supermarket operator headquartered in Ome, Tokyo. The business traces its origins to December 1986, when the Daikokuya discount-store operation was founded; the original Daikoku Ryutu Chain corporation was established in March 1995. It expanded by opening roughly 50 Daikokuya discount stores across the Greater Tokyo area and by acquiring rival supermarket operators, including Giga Bussan from Mammy Mart in 2011, Energy Super Tajima in 2013, the long-established supermarket Marufuji in 2018, and Yaoyoshi, which was absorbed by merger in August 2018. At its peak the group recorded sales of about 19.76 billion yen in the fiscal year ended August 2016. Aggressive M&A proved damaging: some acquired companies were insolvent, and performance and finances deteriorated, with sales falling to roughly 17.5 billion yen in the fiscal year ended August 2018. Takara MC decided to acquire the old company's business and established a new Daikoku Ryutu Chain Co., Ltd. on 7 February 2019 as the vehicle to take over the operations. On 1 April 2019 the new company took over 27 Daikokuya stores plus stores operated by affiliated companies, 59 stores in total; some unprofitable stores were not transferred and were closed. The old company changed its name to Tomioka Kanri Co., Ltd. on 27 February 2020 and resolved to dissolve; on 11 December 2020 it and three affiliated companies received special liquidation orders from the Tokyo District Court, with combined liabilities of about 5.5 billion yen. Tomioka Kanri's legal personality was extinguished on 1 June 2021. The new company acquired Ace Co., Ltd. in December 2019. On 1 April 2022, all shares held by Takara MC were transferred to OZAM, making the new company a wholly owned OZAM subsidiary; at the same time its head office moved from Suruga Ward, Shizuoka to Koto, Tokyo, and its registered head office was moved to Ome, Tokyo. As of August 2025 the group operated Energy Super Tajima (2 stores in Tokyo) and Rakomart (2 in Tokyo, 5 in Saitama, 3 in Chiba), while banners such as Daikokuya, BonVisage, Nakamuraya, Hello Mart, Giga Mart, Giga Pearl and Yaoyoshi had been converted to Rakomart or closed. An affiliated company, BEBER Co., Ltd., is also listed.

History

The Daikoku Ryutu Chain business began in December 1986, when the Daikokuya operation was founded. The original corporation, Daikoku Ryutu Chain Co., Ltd., was established in March 1995. It developed supermarkets in the Greater Tokyo area under banners such as Daikokuya, Energy Super Tajima and Rakomart, and expanded by opening roughly 50 Daikokuya discount stores in the region while acquiring rival supermarket businesses. In March 2011 it acquired Giga Bussan Co., Ltd. from Mammy Mart. In August 2013 it acquired Energy Super Tajima. On 26 June 2018 it acquired the long-established supermarket Marufuji, and on 31 August 2018 it absorbed Yaoyoshi Co., Ltd. by merger. For the fiscal year ended August 2016 the group reported sales of 19,755,840,000 yen. Aggressive M&A backfired. Some acquired companies were insolvent, and the group's performance and financial condition deteriorated; sales for the fiscal year ended August 2018 fell to about 17.5 billion yen. Takara MC decided to acquire the old company's business and, on 7 February 2019, established a new Daikoku Ryutu Chain Co., Ltd. as the vehicle to take it over. On 1 April 2019 the new company took over the business from the old company and group companies and began operating, receiving 27 Daikokuya stores plus stores operated by affiliated companies, 59 stores in total. Some unprofitable stores were not transferred to the new company and were closed as they were. The old company ceased operations upon transferring its business. On 27 February 2020 the old company changed its name to Tomioka Kanri Co., Ltd. and simultaneously resolved at a shareholders' meeting to dissolve. On 11 December 2020 Tomioka Kanri, together with three affiliated companies — Machiya Kanri Co., Ltd. (formerly Giga Bussan), Matsushima Kanri Co., Ltd. (formerly Wataya Tajima Torijiro Shoten) and Matsudo Kanri Co., Ltd. (formerly Hello Mart) — received a special liquidation commencement order from the Tokyo District Court. The four companies' combined liabilities totaled about 5.5 billion yen. Tomioka Kanri's legal personality was extinguished on 1 June 2021. The new company acquired Ace Co., Ltd. in December 2019. On 1 April 2022, all shares of the new company held by Takara MC were transferred to OZAM, a company headquartered in Ome, Tokyo, making the new company a wholly owned subsidiary of OZAM. At the same time, the head office was moved from Suruga Ward, Shizuoka to Koto, Tokyo, and the registered head office location was moved to Ome, Tokyo. As of August 2025, the group operated Energy Super Tajima (2 stores in Tokyo) and Rakomart (2 stores in Tokyo, 5 in Saitama, 3 in Chiba). Banners including Daikokuya, BonVisage, Nakamuraya, Hello Mart, Giga Mart, Giga Pearl and Yaoyoshi had been converted to Rakomart or closed. An affiliated company, BEBER Co., Ltd., is also listed.
