Overview
Daito Communication Apparatus Co., Ltd. (大東通信機株式会社) is a Japanese manufacturer of electrical protection components, best known for high-reliability fuses and fuse holders used in communications equipment, industrial machinery, plant control systems and, more recently, automotive and new-energy applications. The company was established in 1948 in Oyama, Shinagawa, Tokyo, and began producing fuses and holders for communications equipment in 1949. It later moved its head office and factory to Shimomeguro, Meguro, Tokyo, in 1952, where it has maintained a Tokyo base. Over the decades it became a designated supplier to Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation (the former state telecom monopoly) and expanded its product range from alarm-indicating fuses to micro fuses, chip fuses, tubular fuses, DC fuses, plugs and jacks, and lightning-protection products. The company's product portfolio is organized around several core categories: alarm-indicating fuses and holders for telephone exchanges, industrial machinery and nuclear power plant control equipment; radial and chip micro fuses for through-hole and surface-mount printed circuit boards; DC fuses for new-energy and electric vehicle applications; tubular fuses compliant with PSE, UL, CCC and IEC standards; small plugs and jacks for circuit isolation and measurement in PCM/FDM transmission, fax, modem and control equipment; and lightning-protection products that add overvoltage protection functions. Daito Communication Apparatus positions itself as a supplier of highly reliable components for equipment where failure is not acceptable, and it has obtained ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications. The company has also built a group structure. In 1999 it spun off its Tsukuba factory as Tsukuba Daito Techno Co., Ltd., and in 2000 it spun off its Business Development Department as Daito Create Co., Ltd. It established Daito Tsushin (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd. in 2002 as an overseas base, Daito Nagasawa Co., Ltd. in 2003 for glass-tube fuse sales, and Daito Seihin Sho (Shenzhen) in 2004, which became Daito Tsushin (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. in 2011. Daito Tsushin (Weihai) Co., Ltd. was established in 2014. The Hong Kong company was closed in 2020, and the Osaka sales office was closed in 2022. In 2020 the company agreed a partnership with Taiheiyo Seiko Co., Ltd. The company remains privately held and headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.
