Overview
Damiani-Holz & Ko AG is a South Tyrolean timber construction company based in Brixen (Bressanone), Italy, which operates under the brand name LignoAlp. Its origins trace back to 1927, when Leonardo Damiani founded a company in Brixen specialising in the production and sale of solid wood beams. Over the following decades the business grew steadily within the regional timber trade. In 1989 the founder's grandson, Markus Damiani, joined the company and soon took over its management, expanding operations into the construction of timber roofing and timber houses. A decisive turning point came in 2010, when Damiani Holzindustrie AG merged with the carpentry firm Zimmerei holz&co to form Damiani-Holz&KO AG. Since that merger the company has combined artisan craftsmanship with contemporary planning and modern manufacturing technology under the LignoAlp brand. Today LignoAlp describes itself as a precision timber construction specialist. Its portfolio covers wooden houses, large wooden buildings, hybrid wood construction, upward extensions and densification, roofing and timber engineering, and facades. The company builds single- and multi-family homes, commercial buildings and public buildings in wood, and works closely with planners, architects and builders throughout the Alpine region and beyond. According to its own account, its roughly 130 specialist employees construct more than 80 custom-designed timber houses with a high degree of prefabrication and around 250 timber roofs each year, operating from Brixen and Deutschnofen in South Tyrol. LignoAlp positions itself around precision, individuality, freedom of architectural design, craftsmanship and environmental responsibility, emphasising the use of renewable raw materials and healthy living spaces. Its reference projects include residential and mixed-use timber buildings in South Tyrol and neighbouring regions, such as the Küchelberg Apartments in Merano (2022–2023, designed by monovolume architecture + design), as well as projects in Munich, Milan, Bologna and Aosta. The company remains a private, family-rooted enterprise and is not listed on a stock exchange.
History
The company's history begins in 1927, when Leonardo Damiani founded a business bearing his name in the city of Brixen (Bressanone) in South Tyrol, Italy. The firm specialised in the production and sale of solid wood beams, and both the company and its areas of expertise experienced constant growth in the years that followed. For much of the twentieth century it remained rooted in the regional timber trade. A new chapter opened in 1989, when Leonardo's grandson Markus Damiani joined the company. He took over its management shortly afterwards and expanded the company's operations beyond timber trading into the construction of timber roofing and timber houses. This move shifted the business from a wood-products supplier toward a full timber construction contractor. In 2010, after a close working partnership forged over the preceding years, Damiani Holzindustrie AG merged with the carpentry firm Zimmerei holz&co to become Damiani-Holz&KO AG. Since that merger the company has combined artisan craftsmanship with contemporary planning and up-to-the-minute manufacturing technology under the brand name LignoAlp. The LignoAlp brand is the public-facing identity through which the company presents its precision timber construction services. In the years since the merger, LignoAlp has built a portfolio spanning wooden houses, large wooden buildings, hybrid wood construction, upward extensions and densification, roofing and timber engineering, and facades. The company reports that its roughly 130 specialist employees work in close cooperation with planners and builders throughout the Alpine region and beyond, and that it constructs more than 80 custom-designed timber houses with a high degree of prefabrication and around 250 timber roofs each year from its locations in Brixen and Deutschnofen in South Tyrol. Its reference projects include residential and mixed-use timber buildings in South Tyrol and neighbouring regions, such as the Küchelberg Apartments in Merano (2022–2023, designed by monovolume architecture + design), and projects in Munich, Milan, Bologna and Aosta. The company remains a private enterprise.
