Overview
Dansk Historisk Fællesråd (DHF), founded in 1909 as Dansk Historisk Fællesforening (also called Fællesfond), is a Danish association dedicated to supporting local cultural-historical work. Originally a joint association, it served as an umbrella organisation for local cultural-historical museums, archives and associations, and in 1991 it was reorganised into a coordinating joint council. Its members are local and some nationwide historical associations, and it is led by an 11-person board. DHF has published the journal Fortid og Nutid since 1914; in 2010 this merged with Folk og kultur to become the online journal Kulturstudier, a research-based journal focused on historical and contemporary studies of places, people, culture and everyday life. Over the years DHF has also published a number of historical handbooks that have become standard works. Since 2003 it has run the website Historie-Online, providing information on exhibitions, research and books of historical interest, along with a monthly newsletter. Also since 2003, DHF has organised the annual vote for 'Årets historiske bog' (Historical Book of the Year), with the prize awarded by the Minister of Culture. DHF also holds cultural-political meetings. The organisation's activities centre on communication and coordination rather than commercial retail. Its website, historie-online.dk, serves as a portal for history enthusiasts, offering news, exhibition listings, TV tips, book reviews, thematic articles, a lexicon, and resources on genealogy, local history and volunteering at museums and archives. DHF's board has been chaired by a series of historians, archivists and museum professionals since 1909, including Camillus Nyrop, Hans Olrik, Knud Fabricius, Poul Nørlund, Johan Hvidtfeldt, Olaf Olsen, Vagn Skovgaard-Petersen, Vagn Dybdahl, Grethe Ilsøe, Birgit Løgstrup, Thomas W. Lassen, Poul Porskær Poulsen, Søren Bitsch Christensen, Trine Grejsen, Peder Jacob Ellehave Kragh, Jan P. Jessen, Gunnar Jakobsen and, from 2022, Michael Dupont. In 2009, marking its 100th anniversary, DHF published the book 'Historiens Ildsjæle' with portraits of eighteen 'enthusiasts' in the field of history. The organisation remains active in promoting Danish history and cultural heritage.
History
