Overview
DAOU Vineyards & Winery is a winery in Paso Robles, California. Georges and Daniel Daou set out to find an unrivaled terroir for producing Cabernet Sauvignon, which led them to DAOU Mountain. They acquired and restored the original Hoffman Mountain Ranch property, preserving the original redwood winery. The estate produces Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines including Soul of a Lion, described as the pinnacle of DAOU winemaking and the first world-class Bordeaux-style wine to emerge from Paso Robles, as well as the limited-release Three Sisters and the Chemin Collection of Grenache Blanc, Roussanne and Viognier. The winery operates a membership program and the DAOU+ app, and offers Private Client Services by invitation.
History
Georges and Daniel Daou set forth to find an unrivaled terroir for producing Cabernet Sauvignon, a quest that led them to a place of foretold greatness: DAOU Mountain. Decades earlier, wine making authority André Tchelistcheff had hailed the mountain as "a jewel of ecological elements." In 1961, Dr. Stanley Hoffman moved his family to Paso Robles to become a winemaker; he hired Tchelistcheff as a consultant, and together they developed the Hoffman Mountain Ranch vineyard and winery, described as the first gravity-flow winery in America and first commercial-scale winery in Paso Robles. When Georges and Daniel acquired the original Hoffman Mountain Ranch property, they completely restored the original redwood winery. The brothers were forced to leave their home due to war and rebuilt their lives in France, where, surrounded by the vineyards of Bordeaux, a dream took root to craft wines that would stand among the finest.
