The Davey Tree Expert Company was founded in 1880 by John Davey, known as the "Father of Tree Surgery," and has grown into one of the largest employee-owned companies in North America. Employee-owned since 1979, it operates throughout North America and is described as Ohio's largest employee-owned company. Its services span residential and commercial tree care, lawn care, utility vegetation management, asset management consulting and environmental solutions.

The Davey Tree Expert Company was founded in 1880 by John Davey, known as the "Father of Tree Surgery," who developed the concept that the health of a tree could be maintained like that of a human. The company has grown from that idea into one of the largest employee-owned companies in North America and has set industry standards for tree care. It has been employee-owned since 1979. In 2022, crews broke ground at the new Davey SEED (Science, Employee Education and Development) Campus, a 190+ acre property across the street from the corporate headquarters. In 2023, significant upgrades were completed at Davey's corporate headquarters in Kent, Ohio, including a 38,400 square-foot third wing and renovations within the original two wings. In 2024, Davey celebrated 45 years of employee-ownership, employed 12,000+ employees across North America with total annual revenue of more than $1.6 billion, and announced the opening of its biochar facility in East Dundee, Illinois. The Davey SEED Campus is projected to open in 2025.
