Originally based in Sayat, in the northern suburbs of Clermont-Ferrand, it moved its headquarters to Clermont-Ferrand in 2015 after being acquired by Groupe Centre France. The company is known for its regionalist literature, particularly its 'Grandes affaires criminelles' collection, which became a standalone collection in 2008 and grew to nearly 250 titles before being discontinued in 2018. De Borée also publishes under several imprints, including Ecir, la Burle, Cerise bleue, Feuille bleue, Encre violette, and Éditions du papillon. After its acquisition by Groupe Centre France in late 2015, new collections such as 'Marge noire' (crime fiction) and 'Vents d'histoire' (historical fiction) were created in 2016. In 2018, the group launched a new paperback brand, Mon Poche, while De Borée continued its own 'Terre de poche' paperback collection. The company modernized its visual identity in 2019 and has faced organizational changes, including a reorganization mission led by Florence Sultan in late 2019.

History

De Borée was founded in 1989 by Gérald Layani. The publishing house was initially based in Sayat, in the northern suburbs of Clermont-Ferrand. It grew to become a significant regional publisher, with a catalogue of 1,850 titles by 2011 and publishing around 200 new titles per year under various imprints including De Borée, Ecir, la Burle, Cerise bleue, Feuille bleue, Encre violette, and Éditions du papillon. The company also operated a distribution business, with 76 publishers entrusting their distribution to De Borée in 2011. In 2008, the company reported a turnover of approximately 16 million euros. In 2015, the company had about 60 employees, including 40 in distribution. In February 2015, the distribution subsidiary De Borée Diffusion was voluntarily liquidated. At the end of 2015, the Éditions de Borée were acquired by Groupe Centre France and moved to rue Morel-Ladeuil in Clermont-Ferrand, with the head office at rue Clos-Four at the Groupe Centre France headquarters. From March 1, 2016, publications were distributed by Sofedis/Sodis. The collections direction was entrusted to Christophe Matho until 2018. Between 2016 and 2018, new authors joined, including Sylvie Baron, Maud Tabachnik, Édouard Brasey, Gérald Messadié, Joseph Vebret, Éric Yung, Samuel Delage, Frédérick d'Onaglia, Carole Duplessy-Rousée, and Christian Rauth. In 2016, the new owner Centre France Livres created two collections: 'Marge noire' for crime fiction and 'Vents d'histoire' for historical fiction. In 2018, Centre France Livres launched a new paperback brand, Mon Poche, a subsidiary of Groupe Centre France. De Borée continued to publish its own paperback collection, 'Terre de poche', for regional novels, crime fiction, and historical novels. In January 2019, the publishing house modernized its graphic charter and committed to developing its general literature collection by creating a variation of its logo (the initials 'dB'). After the departure of several executives, Florence Sultan, former general director of Calmann Lévy, was called to lead a reorganization mission at the end of 2019.
