Overview

Del Dotto Estate Winery & Caves is a winery property in St. Helena, California, opened in 2007 as the Del Dotto Venetian Estate. It was designed as a cathedral-like structure rising from the original Rutherford vineyard purchased by Dave and Yolanda Del Dotto in 1988, and it pays homage to the family's Venetian heritage dating back to 1150. The estate features a long marble and stone-lined cave corridor illuminated by chandeliers and framed by rows of aging oak barrels, where guests are immersed in a signature barrel tasting experience. Visits are by reservation only, and the property offers experiences such as the Cave Experience & Barrel Tasting and the Private Connoisseur Cave Experience.

History

In 1988, Dave Del Dotto was on a wine-buying trip in Napa Valley with his wife Yolanda when they came upon a 1912 craftsman house in the Rutherford appellation. They purchased the 17-acre property on the spot, and the family moved from Kona, Hawaii. In 1990, they continued the 800-year-old Del Dotto legacy by planting new rootstock of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Sangiovese. It was always Dave and Yolanda's dream to build a winery on the Rutherford property, and Dave envisioned a grand Venetian palace in homage to the Del Dotto family's heritage dating back to 1150 Venice. Nineteen years after purchasing the property, the Del Dotto Venetian Estate opened to the public in 2007. In 2017, Piazza Del Dotto opened just north of Yountville as a second cave tasting location.
