Overview
Delas Frères is a wine house rooted in the Northern Rhône. Its history traces to the founding of the Maison de négoce Junique in Tournon-sur-Rhône in 1835; in 1870 Philippe Delas and Charles Audibert took over that house, and in 1924, when it was taken over by Philippe's sons Henri and Florentin, it was renamed Delas Frères. The house states its mission as revealing the greatest terroirs of the Northern Rhône through balanced, precise and elegant wines, and its collections include Parcellaire, Domaines & Terroirs and Signature, spanning appellations such as Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Saint-Joseph, Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Cornas, Côtes-du-Rhône, Gigondas, Vacqueyras and Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
History
The history of Delas Frères is tied to the Northern Rhône. The slopes of Tournon and Saint-Jean-de-Muzols were already shaped by vines, and the hill of Hermitage, cited in ecclesiastical archives as early as 1480, became an exceptional winegrowing site cultivated in terraces. In 1835 the Maison de négoce Junique was founded in Tournon-sur-Rhône at 18-20 avenue du Maréchal Foch, a site that would become the emblematic address of the future family house. In 1870 Philippe Delas and Charles Audibert entered into partnership and took over the Maison Junique at Tournon with the mission of perpetuating and sharing the unique quality of Hermitage wines while revealing the great terroirs of the Northern Rhône. By 1878 the house had gained international renown, evidenced by gold medals received at the Paris Universal Exposition in 1878 and the Sydney International Exposition in 1879. In 1924, taken over by Henri and Florentin, sons of Philippe Delas, the house was renamed Delas Frères. The families Delas and Audibert united their destinies around a house founded in 1835, with the shared ambition of promoting exceptional parcels year after year.
