Overview

Delkeskamp Verpackungswerke GmbH is a German family-owned packaging company headquartered in Nortrup, Lower Saxony, with a second corrugated board plant in Hannover and additional production in Nordhausen (since 2021) and Odry in the Czech Republic. The company traces its roots to the Kartonagenfabrik Nortrup GmbH, a cardboard box factory founded in 1896 by the merchants Hermann Kemper, August Pählig and Hector Jacob Coenraad Mensonidis. Carl Delkeskamp joined the management in 1898 and became sole owner in 1915; since then the Delkeskamp family has continuously expanded the packaging business. In 1990, following a business split, Delkeskamp Verpackungswerke GmbH was established as the operating company of the asset-managing Delkeskamp KG. Stefan Delkeskamp has been managing partner of the group since 1996. The product range covers packaging solutions made from paper, corrugated board and foam. The company operates two corrugated board plants, a paper mill and two plastics plants. The paper mill produces corrugated base papers exclusively from recovered paper, both for in-house use and for the open market. The core segment is the manufacture and processing of corrugated board, where printing techniques increasingly add promotional value beyond the classic transport-protection function. In the plastics plants, moulded parts are made from expanded polystyrene (EPS), commonly known as Styropor®, used when precise, form-fitting embedding or special protection against cold, heat or moisture is required. Delkeskamp also produces displays, load carriers and technical parts. With around 720 employees, including 38 apprentices, the company generated approximately 176 million euros in revenue in 2018. The official website highlights over 650 employees in certified plants and emphasises customer satisfaction, creativity, experience and technological feasibility as core values. In summer 2022, due to rising energy prices, the company decided to cease paper production at the Nortrup site by the end of that year. Delkeskamp remains a family-run business with a strong regional focus and long-term customer relationships.

History

The origins of Delkeskamp Verpackungswerke lie in the Kartonagenfabrik Nortrup GmbH, a cardboard box factory founded in 1896 by the merchants Hermann Kemper, August Pählig and Hector Jacob Coenraad Mensonidis. The founders recognised the growing demand for shipping boxes to supply expanding cities with rural products around the turn of the century. In 1898, Carl Delkeskamp joined the management of the young company. In 1915, he acquired the shares of the remaining co-founder Hermann Kemper and became sole partner. Since then, successive generations of the Delkeskamp family have expanded the packaging business. A major step was the commissioning of the company's own paper mill in 1960, which secured paper supply and made the company more independent from external suppliers. At the same time, foam was discovered as an additional packaging material, and products such as expanded polystyrene Denopor were developed. In 1990, following a business split (Betriebsaufspaltung), Delkeskamp Verpackungswerke GmbH was established as the operating company of the asset-managing Delkeskamp KG. Since 1996, Stefan Delkeskamp has served as managing partner of the group. Over the decades, the company expanded its production network. It operates two corrugated board plants, a paper mill and two plastics plants at locations in Nortrup, Hannover and, since 2021, Nordhausen in Germany, as well as Odry in the Czech Republic. In summer 2022, due to rising energy prices, the company decided to cease paper production at the Nortrup site by the end of that year. As of 2018, Delkeskamp employed around 720 people, including 38 apprentices, and generated approximately 176 million euros in revenue. The company remains a family-owned business with a strong commitment to regional roots and long-term customer relationships.
