Overview

Desay Corporation (full Chinese name: 广东德赛集团有限公司; pinyin: Guǎngdōng Désài Jítuán Yǒuxiàn Gōngsī) is a Chinese electronics group headquartered in Huizhou, Guangdong. Its businesses include automotive electronics, battery-management and battery-pack integration, precision components, LED displays and industrial automation. The group traces its origins to a local-government industrial development company established in 1983. Desay Corporation is a major shareholder in two companies listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange: Desay Battery (SZSE: 000049) and Desay SV (SZSE: 002920). Desay's automotive-electronics interests are primarily represented by its shareholding in Desay SV, which develops and manufactures products used in vehicle cockpit systems, driver-assistance systems and connected-vehicle electronics. Its battery-related interests are represented by Desay Battery, whose activities include lithium-battery power-management systems and battery-pack integration for consumer electronics, power tools, energy-storage equipment and other applications. The group also has interests in precision components, industrial automation equipment, LED displays, property management and construction-related services. Desay Corporation functions principally as an investment holding company, while manufacturing and research activities are carried out by its investee companies and other operating entities. Desay Corporation is wholly owned by Huizhou Deheng Industrial Co., Ltd. Jiang Jie has served as chairman and president of Desay Corporation since December 2015. The group was recognized among China's top 500 enterprises in 2009 and 2010, ranking 420th and 485th respectively in those two years.

History

Desay's history began in 1983 with the establishment of the Huiyang Prefecture Industrial Development Corporation by local authorities. The organization was created to promote industrial and electronics development in the area that subsequently became Huizhou, Guangdong. It started with five employees and a 50,000-yuan loan, reflecting its initial role as a local industrial-development vehicle rather than a large commercial electronics company. In 1986, the predecessor began forming Sino-foreign joint ventures with businesses from Hong Kong and other markets. These partnerships provided a route into manufacturing and international commercial cooperation. In 1992, the Huizhou municipal government approved the creation of Huizhou Desay Group, giving the organization a more recognizable group structure and establishing the Desay name as a central corporate identity. During the 1990s, Desay manufactured and marketed consumer electronics. Its products included telephones and VCD players, placing the group within China's rapidly expanding consumer-electronics sector. This period established Desay as a recognizable electronics brand in its domestic market, although the later group would become less dependent on consumer terminal products. Guangdong Desay Group Co., Ltd., the present corporation, was incorporated on April 28, 2002. Restructuring associated with this transition introduced employee shareholding alongside continued state ownership. In 2004, Desay obtained its first publicly listed platform through the restructuring of the business now known as Desay Battery. This provided the group with a listed-company connection in battery and related electronics activities. Automotive electronics became a central strategic direction in the following decade. In 2010, Desay acquired the 70 percent foreign interest in Siemens VDO Auto Electronics (Huizhou), adding it to the 30 percent interest Desay already held. The business was subsequently reorganized as Desay SV. This transaction created the foundation for Desay's automotive-electronics operations and linked the group to vehicle cockpit systems, driver-assistance technologies and connected-vehicle electronics. From 2013 onward, Desay reduced its involvement in consumer terminal products and placed greater emphasis on automotive electronics and batteries for new-energy applications. Its battery-related activities expanded beyond traditional consumer products into lithium-battery power management and battery-pack integration for consumer electronics, power tools, energy-storage equipment and other uses. The group also retained or developed interests in precision components, LED displays and industrial automation. Desay's corporate structure changed again in 2020 and 2021. The restructuring separated Desay Corporation from Huizhou Industrial Investment and Development Capital Management Co., Ltd., known as Huizhou Capital. Following the resulting arrangement, Desay Corporation became a wholly owned subsidiary of Huizhou Deheng Industrial Co., Ltd., while Huizhou Capital continued to be controlled by the Huizhou municipal government. Desay now operates primarily through its investment and operating companies. Its key listed affiliates are Desay Battery and Desay SV, both traded on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange. Desay Battery represents the group's battery-management and battery-pack activities, while Desay SV is the principal automotive-electronics platform. The group also maintains activities and interests in precision manufacturing, LED displays, industrial automation, property management and construction-related services. Its historical consumer-electronics identity remains part of its development story, but its current strategic profile is centered on automotive technology, electrification and industrial electronics.
