History

The DCC was founded on 22 September 1948 in post-war Germany as an association whose goal was to make leisure in nature accessible to all and to ensure the creation of the corresponding local recreation infrastructure. As early as 1949, the newly founded club invited members to the first national rally at Lake Staffelsee. From 1952 onward, the camping movement in Germany began a rapid upward development. On 1 January 1953, the first issue of the magazine CAMPING appeared; since 2017, CAMPING has also been available in retail and can additionally be read free of charge by DCC members as an e-paper, while non-members can access it as an e-paper for a fee. From the beginning, the DCC advocated for winter camping and already in 1953 organized the first such event in Reit im Winkl.
