Overview
Dewulf is a Belgian agricultural machine manufacturer and full-liner for the cultivation of potatoes and root crops. The family business was founded in 1946 by Robert Dewulf, who began welding ploughs in his father's barn and soon built potato harvesters. The company operates three production locations in Belgium, the Netherlands and Romania, and its range covers soil cultivation, planting, harvesting, storage, grading and transport of potatoes and vegetables. Dewulf acquired Miedema in 2014 and reports a turnover of approximately 151 million euros (2025) with more than 550 employees and over 1,100 machines produced every year.
History
Dewulf was founded in 1946 by Robert Dewulf, a farmer's son who was more interested in the technical side of agricultural life. At the age of 25, he started welding ploughs in his father's barn. Soon after, he began constructing potato harvesters, originally trailed by horse and later built to be trailed by a tractor. In the 1960s, demand from the vegetable processing companies around Roeselare led Dewulf to extend its portfolio with mechanically driven carrot, leek and chicory harvesters. At the end of the 1980s, the company relocated to a larger site and facility in Roeselare to cope with its continuous growth. In 1989, Dewulf introduced the first ever self-propelled, three-wheeled, side-mounted potato harvester with gooseneck control, the R3000, for which it received the Gouden Aar during the 1990 Agribex exhibition in Brussels. In 2006, Dewulf opened a production facility in Brasov, Romania, aiming at greater manufacturing efficiencies and cost savings. In 2014, Dewulf acquired Miedema, after which it describes itself as one of the undisputed global leaders in this segment of the agricultural machinery manufacturing market. The family business has a rich 80-year history and is now under the management of the third generation.
