History

The roots of DFE Pharma date back more than 100 years, when two dairy producers in the Netherlands and New Zealand gradually transformed into modern producers of lactose excipients and joined to become the world's leading excipient manufacturer. The abbreviation of these two companies, DMV-Fonterra Excipients, led to the first part of the name 'DFE', complemented by 'Pharma' as an independent company focused on the (bio)pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industry. Since 2020, DFE Pharma is jointly owned by Royal FrieslandCampina and CVC Capital Partners, each holding a 50% share.
